Joseph L. Bruneni, FNAO, Special Contributor

With more than 40 years of experience in the industry, Joe Bruneni was a well-known expert on ophthalmic eyewear, especially in the area of eyeglass lens manufacturing. For 12 years he was educational director for the Optical Laboratories Association and was a consultant to the California Optical Laboratories Association. He was also executive director and industry spokesperson for the Polycarbonate Council, which educates eye care professionals and consumers on polycarbonate eyeglass lenses.

Joe authored numerous authoritative publications, including the manual Perspective on Lenses, Vision Council of America's Lens Supplement, the OLA Lens Menu patient brochure, and the excellent book Looking Back, an illustrated history of the optical industry. He also wrote lens articles and columns for EyeCare Business magazine.

Joe taught ophthalmic optics at Southern California College of Optometry and was president of Torrance, Calif.-based communications and marketing agency Vision Consultants, Inc.

Joe Bruneni passed away in March 2004. We miss his kindness and generosity, and we honor him for his many significant accomplishments in the ophthalmic industry.
