How Eyeconic works: buying glasses

The process of choosing and buying glasses online is a little more involved, but Eyeconic offers online tools that make it easier to find the right pair for you.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to buying Eyeconic glasses:

1. Shop frames. Go to the Eyeconic website and click on “eyeglasses” to browse frames. You can narrow your choices by women’s glasses, mens, glasses, children’s glasses, as well as by brand, color, frame size, material, price range, rim type and shape. Available frame shapes include: aviator, cat-eye, oval, round and square.

2. Try on glasses virtually. Once you’ve found a few frames you like, use the Eyeconic virtual try-on tool by uploading a photo or short video of yourself. While it’s not a substitute for trying on glasses in person, a virtual try-on session can help you find frames that work well on your face.

3. Look at eyewear reviews. Eyeconic includes eyewear reviews below each frame style. Reading customer reviews to see which frame features another buyer liked or didn’t like can be helpful.

4. Choose lenses. Once you find your frames, click on the “select lenses” button. Choose either single vision, progressive or non-prescription lenses. Then choose a “lens package.” You can pick one of these lens packages:

  • Silver Packagepolycarbonate lenses, impact and scratch resistant coating, with UV protection

  • Gold PackageTrivex lenses, impact and scratch resistant coating, anti-reflective coating, UV protection

  • Platinum package – Thin and light lenses, high-index, impact and scratch resistant coating, anti-reflective coating, UV protection

You can also choose to add extras, such as a Techshield Blue coating that filters blue light or SunSync light-reactive lenses that get darker in sunlight.

5. Provide a prescription. Upload your glasses prescription or choose to send it later or have Eyeconic call your eye doctor.

6. Buy your glasses. Check out, choose a shipping speed and pay for your glasses. You can track your order while waiting for your new glasses to arrive. When your order is delivered, make sure your glasses fit well.

7. Get a frame adjustment. Your new glasses may need to be adjusted in person to tweak the fit. Eyeconic offers a free glasses adjustment from a VSP eye doctor for all customers. Log into your Eyeconic account to find a VSP eye doctor near you and schedule a frame adjustment.

How much do Eyeconic glasses cost?

The cost of Eyeconic glasses typically runs from a little over $100 to $750 or more, depending on your prescription and the frames, lenses and lens treatments you choose.

Eyeconic frames range from a little over $100 to more than $450. For lenses, Eyeconic offers three packages (as outlined above). Each includes different lens materials and coatings.

You might pay a little over $100 for Eyeconic glasses with:

  • Basic frames

  • Single vision polycarbonate lenses

  • Anti-scratch coating

  • UV protection

But you could pay $650 or more for Eyeconic glasses with:

  • High-end designer frames

  • Progressive lenses

  • Thin, light lenses

  • Anti-reflective and anti-scratch coating

  • UV protection

And it’s possible to pay even more. Adding blue light or transition lenses could tack on $70-$80 or more to the total cost of Eyeconic glasses.

Eyeconic glasses may not be the cheapest glasses you can buy online, but there are ways to save money on your order.

Does Eyeconic take vision insurance?

Eyeconic accepts three types of vision insurance. If you have vision insurance not accepted by Eyeconic, you’ll need to buy your eyewear and then fill out a form to file a claim with your vision insurance provider.

The three types of vision insurance Eyeconic accepts:

  • Cigna Vision Insurance

  • Metlife

  • VSP

  4. Shop for contacts or glasses and get your insurance discount applied directly.

The Eyeconic return policy offers:

  • Free returns for 60 days. Eyeconic will refund or exchange contacts or glasses within 60 days of the shipping date of your order. To get a refund or exchange, you must return contacts in their original packaging and glasses in their original case.

  • A one-time frame exchange. If you order glasses and then decide you don’t like the frames, Eyeconic offers a one-time exchange for new frames that cost the same or less. If you want more expensive frames, you’ll need to contact Eyeconic customer service.

  • Prescription change exchanges. If your prescription changes within six months of your order, Eyeconic will exchange your contacts or eyeglass lenses when you provide your new prescription.

Eyeconic refunds will go to the credit card or other payment method you used to buy your eyewear. If you no longer use that payment method, you’ll get an Eyeconic gift card for your refund amount.

The Eyeconic return policy does have its limits. You’re not allowed to return damaged or scratched glasses. You also can’t return expired contact lenses or contacts with altered, opened or damaged packaging.

Eyeconic pros & cons

Eyeconic is a reputable online seller of eyewear that, as with any seller, comes with benefits and drawbacks.

Eyeconic might not be the best choice if you’re shopping for glasses online on a tight budget because their frames generally start at $100 and go up from there. If you’re looking for discount frames, you might want to shop around and look at other options to buy cheap glasses online

However, Eyeconic does offer coupons and promo codes for first-time customers, teachers, students, military and others. With multiple ways to save money on glasses or contacts, you can easily cut your costs.

We also checked the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and found the company has a “B” rating. Also, Eyeconic reviews are mixed. Some customers rave about Eyeconic for fast service and quality glasses. But other customers have complained about bad-quality lenses, poor customer service and shipping delays.

The bottom line: Eyeconic may be a good place to shop for glasses if you want designer frames, you have a flexible budget, and you have VSP or one of the other two types of vision insurance they accept. But it may be wise to read Eyeconic reviews and shop other online eyewear sellers before you buy.
