FAQ: Can I use my FSA/HSA on non-prescription glasses?

Over-the-counter glasses and sunglasses that do not require a prescription are not covered under a flexible spending account (FSA) or health savings account (HSA) plan.
To be eligible for reimbursement, a prescription must be provided by an eye doctor, and the glasses or sunglasses must be used to correct vision problems and/or be designed to treat a specific medical condition. Find an eye doctor near you to get the most up-to-date prescription.
However, non-prescription reading eyeglasses are eligible for reimbursement under an FSA and HSA. They are not covered under dependent-care plans.
Eligible vision products include:
- Prescription sunglasses
- Prescription eyeglasses
- Prescription and non-prescription reading glasses
- Contact lenses - Eye care co-pays and deductibles
- Routine eye exams
Make sure you check with your account administrator on what is covered under your company’s FSA and HSA policies to verify what is eligible for reimbursement.
