Our background and mission
This website was launched in January 2000 to provide consumers with an unbiased source of trustworthy information on eye health and vision correction options.
Many eye care products and services are available to improve your vision and eye health. However, each is effective only when used properly and in the right circumstances. Please make decisions about your eyes and vision in consultation with an eye care professional (optometrist, ophthalmologist, optician, etc.) who can provide guidance based on their experience and knowledge of your individual needs.

Who's behind AllAboutVision.com? The website was launched by Access Media Group , a company founded and run by individuals who have been involved in eye care journalism since 1977.
In June 2016, ownership of the site was transferred to AAV Media, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Essilor of America. The site continues to be operated as an independent entity by the same editors, publishers and other staff members.
How does AllAboutVision.com make money? AllAboutVision.com is funded by advertising and sponsorships from various companies that are clearly designated throughout the site. This website doesn't sell products, so our content isn't biased toward anything we're trying to sell you.
Is AllAboutVision.com's content trustworthy? The site's content is written by a team of journalists who have extensive experience in the eye care field. In addition, articles are developed with the input of an Advisory Board of eye care practitioners. All health-related articles are written and/or reviewed by one or more eye care practitioners. We strive to ensure that the optometrists, ophthalmologists and opticians who write and review our content don't have financial interests that will influence their coverage of a topic.
Would I be better off trusting a website that doesn't carry advertising? All websites must be paid for somehow. Websites that don't carry advertising often exist to sell you a product, which can bias their content. Other sites that don't run advertising are usually funded by one organization, which generally has a particular point of view that is reflected in their site's content. Having a diversified group of advertisers means we are not beholden to limited special interests. We function as an online publication: Our job is to report all the facts and let you draw your own informed conclusion.
But isn't AllAboutVision.com's content biased toward its advertisers? We run advertising for many different types of products and services. From a business perspective, that helps keep us impartial. For example, no laser vision correction companies would advertise with us if our content was unfairly biased toward contact lenses, and vice versa. Much more importantly, since AllAboutVision.com is an online publication, the professional ethics of our team of journalists and our doctor reviewers set the standard for our editorial quality.
How do I know which content on your website is advertising, and which is not? Our website includes advertising banners, advertorials and sponsored sections. Advertisements and advertorials are labeled with the word "Advertisement." Sponsored sections are labeled with the phrase "Sponsored Section."
How current is AllAboutVision.com's information? Not every page is updated every day, but the site is updated daily. Our editorial team closely follows news and events in the eye care field, attends professional eye care conferences, and consults regularly with leading eye doctors and other eye health authorities. We strive to present the most current, accurate and useful information. At the bottom of each article is a "page updated" date.
What is the mailing address for AllAboutVision.com? You can send mail to AAV Media, LLC, 5580 La Jolla Blvd. #78, La Jolla, CA 92037.
