AllAboutVision's background and mission

All About Vision was launched in January 2000 to provide consumers with an unbiased source of trustworthy information on eye health and vision correction options.

A lot has changed over the years, but All About Vision's mission of education remains a constant.

Who owns All About Vision?

The website was launched by Access Media Group , a company founded and run by individuals who have been involved in eye care journalism since 1977.

In June 2016, ownership of the site was transferred to AAV Media LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Essilor of America.

Please read our Privacy Statement detailing what information Al lAbout Vision collects about you when you visit, what it does with that information and how long it keeps that information.

Who is behind All About Vision?

Our Editorial Advisory Board, editors and writers have years of combined experience in patient care, research, consulting and article authorship specific to eye care.

How does All About Vision make money?

All About Vision is funded by advertising and sponsorships from various companies that are clearly designated throughout the site.

Is All About Vision's content trustworthy?

The site's content is written by a team of journalists who have extensive experience in the eye care field. In addition, articles are developed with the input of an advisory board of eye care practitioners.

All health-related articles are written and/or reviewed by one or more eye care practitioners. We strive to ensure that the optometrists and opticians who write and review our content don't have financial interests that will influence their coverage of a topic.

Why is advertising important to All About Vision?

All websites must be paid for somehow. Websites that don't carry advertising often exist to sell you a product, which can bias their content. Other sites that don't run advertising are usually funded by one organization, which generally has a particular point of view that is reflected in their site's content.

But isn't All About Vision's content biased toward its advertisers?

We run advertising for many different types of products and services. From a business perspective, that helps keep us impartial.

For example, no laser vision correction companies would advertise with us if our content was unfairly biased toward contact lenses, and vice versa.

How do I know which content on your website is advertising?

Our website includes advertising banners, advertorials, sponsored sections and links to partner sites. Advertisements and advertorials are labeled with the word "Advertisement." Sponsored sections are labeled with the phrase "Sponsored Section."

Links to partner sites or to studies or research documents on which health articles are based are marked visibly as external links.

How current is All About Vision's information?

Our editorial team closely follows news and events in the eye care field, attends professional eye care conferences, and consults regularly with leading optometrists and other eye health authorities. We strive to present the most current, accurate and useful information. At the bottom of each article is a "page updated" date.
