William B. Trattler, MD

Dr. William Trattler received his bachelor's degree with honors from Dartmouth College and his Doctorate of Medicine degree from University of Miami School of Medicine, where he graduated in 1992 with Distinction in Research. He completed his ophthalmology residency at University of Pennsylvania, Scheie Eye Institute and spent a year in training in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. During his Corneal Fellowship, Dr. William Trattler performed research on dry eye and oil gland problems of the eye. He applies a variety of techniques to help those individuals with significant dry eye problems.

Dr. Trattler has performed a wide variety of refractive surgeries, including PRK, LASIK, LASEK, epi-LASIK and no-injection, sutureless cataract surgery. He is also an investigator for the Phakic Refractive Lens (PRL), a new technique where a plastic lens is inserted into the eye to treat severe myopia or hyperopia.

Dr. Trattler has been invited to lecture across the United States on corneal infections of the eye, ocular allergy, dry eye, laser vision correction and sutureless cataract surgery techniques. In addition to his private practice at the Center for Excellence in Eye Care, he is a Volunteer Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Miami's Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, where he trains young ophthalmologists and ophthalmology residents in cataract and corneal transplant surgeries. He is also a member of the Bascom Palmer/Ann Bates Leach hospital board.

Dr. Trattler is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and has written many articles and abstracts, including as co-author of Microbiology Made Ridiculously Simple, a textbook used by medical, nursing and veterinary students throughout the world. In 2002, Dr. Trattler received the "Outstanding Young Ophthalmologist Leadership Award" from the Florida Society of Ophthalmology.
