AllAboutVision.com Upgrades Infrastructure to Serve Growing Audience
San Diego, Calif., August 6, 2014 AllAboutVision.com has upgraded the speed and capacity of its web server and added a content distribution network (CDN) to ensure an optimal experience for site visitors.
"Our site traffic recently doubled, necessitating some changes," said Tom Meinert, partner in Access Media Group, publisher of the site. "In June, we served more than 118 million files. At that point, we needed to add capacity for our continued growth."
AllAboutVision.com now serves all images and scripts through a CDN with 31 locations and peering partners in North America, including partners such as AT&T, Comcast and Verizon. Since consumers are connected directly to these Internet service providers, "hops" between providers are reduced and site visitors enjoy faster site performance. Advertisers benefit when users view more pages, and spend more time on them. According to Google, "Fast and optimized pages lead to higher visitor engagement, retention, and conversions."
Prior to adding the CDN, AllAboutVision.com's server was upgraded to faster processors and higher capacity, and moved to a new datacenter for better utilization of high-performance bandwidth. AllAboutVision.com has also been serving audio files through Amazon Web Services, which continues.
Currently AllAboutVision.com serves more than 600,000 weekly unique visitors, measured by Google Analytics. Accounting for seasonality, that level of traffic annualizes to more than 30 million visitors.
Launched in 2000, AllAboutVision.com is a one-stop, independent resource providing consumers with hundreds of pages of trustworthy, up-to-date information on vision correction and eye health. The site is certified by the Health on the Net Foundation, and is a Supporter National Sponsor of Optometry Giving Sight.
