Each patient at Willis-Falkenberg Eye Center is meticulously examined to determine the best option for vision correction. For LASIK surgery, the VISX Star S4-IR custom wavefront excimer laser technology with Iris Registration is used. This wavefront-guided system provides for a precise measurement of each patient's eye. Then, this "fingerprint" is programmed into the excimer laser so that each eye is treated with a customized laser profile. To create the corneal flap, the "All Laser LASIK" or "Blade Free LASIK" procedure is used, which is called Intralase. The advanced laser technology, in combination with Drs. Falkenberg and Hudson's extensive experience, provides for excellent surgical results.
In addition to LASIK surgery, PRK and LASEK laser vision correction are also offered. Drs. Thomas Falkenberg, MD, received his undergraduate degree with magna cum laude honors at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. He completed his medical degree with cum laude honors at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He completed residencies in both Internal Medicine and Ophthalmology, as well as a fellowship in Ophthalmology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Ophthalmology and has extensive surgical experience in refractive, cataract, glaucoma, eyelid, and laser eye surgery. He is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the American Medical Association, the American College of Surgeons, and the Medical Society of Virginia.
Stephen J. Hudson, MD, received his medical degree from Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. Upon finishing his internship at the National Naval Medical Center, Dr. Hudson completed his ophthalmology residency at the Medical University of South Carolina's Storm Eye Institute in Charleston. He comes from a unique professional background having practiced law in addition to ophthalmology. Dr. Hudson attained his Juris Doctorate from University of Maryland School of Law with a concentration in Health Law. He gained extensive experience as a physician during his time serving in the U.S. Navy as a medical officer for more than a decade, as well as an Executive Flight Surgeon on the President's Helicopter Squadron and Marine One.
Dr. Hudson has received several honors and awards from his community and peers, including the American Medical Association's "Community Service Award for Lifetime Commitment to Community Service" in 2006 and Unite for Sight's "2007 International Volunteer of the Year Award" for eye surgeries and care provided in Jerusalem and Africa. Dr. Hudson was also named one of the "Ten Outstanding Young Americans in 2006" by the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce and one of "America's Top Comprehensive Ophthalmologists in 2009" by the Consumers' Research Council of America. In addition to serving Fredericksburg's ophthalmological needs, Dr. Hudson is a Commander in the Navy Reserves.
