More About UT Southwestern Laser Center for Vision Care

The surgeons offer a variety of refractive surgery options, including PRK, LASEK, EpiLASIK and LASIK. Every vision correction patient is meticulously examined and treated by the surgeons so they can recommend the best procedure, which will lead to more rewarding results. LASIK surgery is performed using the VISX Star S4/IR excimer laser system. For treatment, a highly accurate measure of the corneal curvature is determined and a custom laser beam profile is created to correct each eye. To create the corneal flap, the Intralase FS laser, or "All-Laser LASIK" system, is available. The combination of the latest in FDA-approved laser technology with long-term surgeon experience provides for excellent vision after surgery. UT Southwestern doctors routinely publish their patient results in peer-reviewed medical literature.

The UT Southwestern Laser Center for Vision Care also offers the most recent advances in presbyopia-correcting IOL (intraocular lenses) surgery. The surgeons use the "no needle," "no stitch," "no patch" surgical technique. The newest IOLs are available, including the ReSTOR lens that simultaneously corrects for distance and reading vision. STAAR ICLs (implantable contact lenses) are also available for many refractive candidates who could not safely have LASIK surgery, such as those with high myopia or dry eyes. Although the UT Southwestern surgeons are on the leading edge of new technology in eye care, they are conservative in their approach to vision correction surgery. A comprehensive screening process is used for all patients and a large percentage of patients are advised not to undergo surgery.
