Thomas S. Tooma, MD, is the Medical Director for TLC Laser Eye Centers of Newport Beach. Dr. Tooma has performed more than 60,000 refractive surgeries and is one of the pioneers in laser vision correction. He was a principal investigator in excimer laser technology between 1993 and 1994, and has helped several excimer laser manufacturers obtain FDA approval. This experience helped him select the lasers used at TLC Laser Eye Centers to provide patients the best chance for 20/20 vision.
Dr. Tooma was the first ophthalmologist in the world to use the IntraLase laser and the first in California to perform LASIK and Custom wavefront-guided LASIK. He has taught hundreds of eye doctors refractive surgical procedures and certified many ophthalmic surgeons in excimer laser surgery.
Franklin W. Lusby, MD, earned his bachelor's degree, graduating magna cum laude, from Columbia Union College and his medical degree from Loma Linda University School of Medicine. He completed an internship at Boston University School of Medicine affiliated Malden Hospital and his residency at the White Memorial Medical Center in Los Angeles. Dr. Lusby also completed a sixteen-month fellowship in anterior segment surgery with James McCaffery, MD at the Glendale Eye Medical Center.
Dr. Lusby was certified to use the Chiron ALK microkeratome in 1995 and completed a LASIK fellowship with Stephen Slade, MD, in 1996. He served as the chief of ophthalmology at Glendale Adventists Medical Center, and has taught, lectured and written numerous journal articles pertaining to cataract and refractive surgery.
Dan B. Tran, MD, specializes in surgical vision correction including, LASIK, IntraLase, PRK, Intacs, intraocular lens and corneal transplant procedures. His skill and experience have been featured in the Los Angeles Times, KCBS and national ophthalmological publications. Dr. Tran is the "eye surgeon of choice" for the Southern California PGA Metro Chapter, the Long Beach Police Officer Association and the San Bernardino County Safety Employees Association.
Patients, including prominent ophthalmologists, have come from around the globe to have Dr. Tran perform their vision surgery. Dr. Tran has completed thousands of LASIK and IntraLase surgeries, and was one of the first surgeons in the world to perform the all-laser, Bladeless IntraLase procedure. He was also the first surgeon in the nation to pioneer the use of the IntraLase FS laser system in conjunction with Intacs intracorneal ring segments for the treatment and management of keratoconus.
