Stephen Slade, MD, FACS and Richard N. Baker, OD, have practiced together since 1983. They founded the Laser Center of Houston in 1995 as a referral clinic for patient care, physician education and as an investigational site for the advancement of refractive surgery.
Dr. Stephen Slade is the chief surgeon of the Slade & Baker Vision Center's Laser Center of Houston. The staff members, many of whom have had LASIK surgery, are all hand-selected and personally trained by Drs. Slade and Baker.
For LASIK surgery, Stephen Slade, MD uses the best and latest "flying spot" technology. This wavefront guided custom LASIK system provides a unique map of the patient's corneal curvature. The excimer laser then creates a customized ablation profile that reshapes the cornea in an individual way for each patient. To create the "corneal flap," Stephen Slade, MD often uses the "all laser LASIK" procedure called IntraLASIK. Stephen Slade, MD has extensive experience with this bladeless procedure, and has the longest experience in the United States with IntraLASIK for myopia, astigmatism and hyperopia or farsightedness.

Dr. Stephen Slade is a Houston native who did his undergraduate study at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, and the University of Texas, where he graduated summa cum laude (with highest honors). He attended medical school at the University of Texas School of Medicine at the Texas Medical Center. During his final elective year of medical school, he studied at Guy's Hospital, London, England. He completed his residency in ophthalmology in New Orleans followed by a fellowship in corneal surgery at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston. He also studied and completed fellowship training on the airborne eye hospital, Project Orbis, which travels to Third World countries offering surgical eye care. Stephen Slade, MD is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American College of Surgeons.
