More about LASIK at Shapiro Eye Care

For safe and effective LASIK treatment, Dr. Shapiro has equipped his practice with the most advanced laser technology, including the Allegretto Wave™ excimer laser platform and the Ziemer FEMTO LDV™ Femtosecond laser. The Wavelight® laser is the only laser used in the United States that incorporates high-speed wavefront optimization in the laser. It is also the only laser that will give you better night vision. The laser operates at extraordinary speed, so most treatments are as little as 4 seconds, some even less. To begin the LASIK procedure, Dr. Shapiro makes a microscopic, self-healing "flap" on the surface of the eye. To create this flap, he uses the Ziemer FEMTO LDV™ laser which uses an ultra-fast, tightly focused, low energy laser beam. The beam creates microscopic bubbles precisely at the intended depth. Unlike other femtosecond lasers, the bubbles that are created disappear immediately after the flap is lifted, creating a smoother surface and allowing the next step of the procedure to begin without any waiting time.

Then, Dr. Shapiro uses the cool light from the Allegretto laser to reshape the cornea to eliminate nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. Once the tissue has been reshaped, Dr. Shapiro returns the corneal flap to its original position. Your eyes are 90 percent healed within 24 hours and totally healed within a few weeks. LASIK is usually a painless procedure. Oral medication is provided to calm your nerves and to make the entire experience smooth and relaxing. After the LASIK procedure is over, most patients typically notice an improvement in vision within 24 hours, and are enjoying not wearing glasses and contacts.

Another advantage of having LASIK with Shapiro Eye Care is its guarantees. Dr. Shapiro offers a Price Assurance Policy and a Long Term Guarantee. Dr. Shapiro is so confident that his price is the most reasonable in the area, that if a patient finds another surgeon offering personalized blade-free LASIK surgery at a lower price, Shapiro Eye Care will match it. The quote must include: pre- and post-operative care for LASIK surgery, the use of a femtosecond laser to make the corneal flap, the use of the WaveLight Allegretto 400 excimer laser system to reshape the cornea, and a long-term guarantee.

Shapiro Eye Care also offers a Long Term Guarantee — if a blade-free LASIK patient’s distance eyesight ever regresses, Dr. Shapiro's fees for a retreatment will be waived. This is the Shapiro Eye Care difference.
