Dr. D's attention to detail is exemplified in his design of the Lasik Suite. The VISX laser sits on a beautiful marble floor, surrounded by accent lights, a giant Italian Tapestry and original art work. Most people are not aware that the VISX laser must be operated within a specific range of environmental conditions. To ensure consistent performance of the laser, Dr. D set up the Lasik Suite with an independent air conditioner system, a dedicated air purifier and a computer system that constantly records the air temperature and humidity. This system ensures excellent air quality in the Lasik Suite at all times. Dr. D added a backup power supply which ensures the completion of all refractive procedures, even in the event of a power surge or power outage.

Inventions:
Dr. D invented a computerized Electronic Medical Records System to maximize Lasik outcomes by providing unlimited access to critical data during the Lasik procedure. There are five large computer displays in the Lasik Suite that Dr. D uses to monitor all facets of the refractive process. This technology dramatically improves the safety of all refractive procedures performed at SEECA.

Dr. D also invented a patent-pending device called the "Laser Guided True Scan" that dramatically improves the calculated lens power used during lens exchange refractive surgery.

Dr. D. and his staff at SEECA have been specially trained to use the latest technologies in the ophthalmic field. When performing LASIK, Dr. D uses the CustomVue procedure, which combines the VISX S4 Excimer Laser and the WaveScan Wavefront System to provide a customized solution.

The WaveScan Wavefront System creates a detailed map of the eye that is 25 times more precise than the measurements used by conventional lasers. This map is used to create an individualized set of instructions for the VISX S4 Excimer Laser that is unique to each person (much like a fingerprint). By using the WaveScan Wavefront System, Dr. D is able to provide his LASIK patients with an unparalleled level of accuracy and customization that far exceeds other laser platforms.

More About Dr. D

Dr. D received his bachelor of arts degree while attending Louisiana State University on a Chancellor's Scholarship and attended Harvard University. He graduated with honors from Louisiana State University Medical School and completed a four year ophthalmology residency program at Ochsner in New Orleans where he served as Chief Resident.

Dr. D's research publications have appeared in "Life Science Journal," and he received the LSU Research Award while attending Medical School on the Chancellor's Scholarship.

Dr. D is affiliated with several prestigious medical organizations including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and the Louisiana State Medical Society.

In 2004, Dr. D was named the Patriotic Citizen of the Year in Houma Louisiana by the United Veterans League for providing free eye care to local veterans and their families. In 2005, Consumer's Research Council of America named Dr. D as one of America's Top Ophthalmologists. In 2007, Dr. D was selected to be a speaker at the American Academy of Ophthalmology's International Conference.

Dr. D was recently named Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, one of the highest honors bestowed upon a surgeon.
