Stephen G. Phillips, MD, is a board certified ophthalmologist and a highly-skilled LASIK surgeon. Dr. Phillips recognized the importance and potential in the emerging field of refractive surgery and was one of the first ophthalmologists to complete a fellowship in corneal refractive surgery, the subspecialty of ophthalmology, which includes LASIK and other forms of laser vision correction. He has taught refractive surgery techniques to ophthalmologists in this country and abroad. He is a past president of the Washington Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons and a recipient of their Distinguished Service Award. Stephen G. Phillips, MD, received his undergraduate degree with honors from Williams College, later attending the University of Washington to complete pre-medical studies. Dr. Phillips earned his Doctorate of Medicine from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York before completing an internal medicine internship at Lenox Hill Hospital. He returned to Albert Einstein College of Medicine to complete his ophthalmology residency, and culminated his formal ophthalmic education with specialty fellowship training in the emerging field of keratorefractive surgery, studying under the world renowned ophthalmologist, J. Charles Casebeer, MD, Professor Emeritus of Ophthalmology of the University of Utah. Subsequently, he has studied under the late Donald Johnson, MD, an innovator in laser vision correction in Vancouver B.C., and has served as Medical Director and Chief LASIK Surgeon for the ICON Laser Vision Center in Seattle before establishing hi own LASIK center within his private practice in 2001.
