Orange County LASIK Surgeons

LASIK laser eye surgery has been used by patients from Orange County and throughout the world to reduce or eliminate their dependence on contact lenses and spectacles. This surgery is a breakthrough in modern technology that allows Orange County LASIK surgeons to reshape the corneal curvature and eliminate refractive errors. Laser eye surgery for the correction of myopia (nearsightedness) was first approved by the FDA in 1995. Later, correction of hyperopia (farsightedness) and astigmatism were approved. The first type of laser eye surgery approved by the FDA was PRK. PRK is different than LASIK in that during the LASIK procedure, the very outer front layer of the cornea is separated from the cornea's inner layers, creating a thin layer of material called the corneal flap. After this layer of cornea is created, the Newport Beach LASIK surgeon will lift and then reshape the inner layers of the cornea with an excimer laser. After the laser light is applied to and ablates the corneal tissue, the flap is replaced. Over time, the flap heals and the thin layer reattaches to the inner layers. During the PRK procedure, no flap is created and the laser ablates the tissue on the surface of the cornea. Since no flap is created, PRK can create more discomfort than LASIK. But, for certain Orange County and Newport Beach patients with thinner corneas, PRK is the best alternative for correction of refractive errors.

Orange County for Historical Landmarks and LASIK Surgery

When having LASIK surgery in Orange County, there are a wide variety of historic landmarks to visit while recuperating. The Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum is one such national historical landmark. This nine acre site is the birthplace and childhood home of the 37th president of the United States, Richard Nixon. The primary facility is a museum narrating the president's life and career, including extensive information on his family. Exhibits include formal clothing, memorabilia and photographs of the entire family, in addition to the president's Sea King helicopter. The museum is also home to the Nixon Foundation managed Loker Center and Annenberg Court that houses a replica of the East Room in the White House. A second historic landmark in Orange County is the home of Helena Modjeska, an internationally renowned Shakespearean actress from Poland. This is the most important place she lived while exiled in America from 1888-1906. The house is recognized as a landmark because it is one of the first star homes in Southern California, a trend that has been continued by numerous famous actors and actresses. A trip to Orange County for a LASIK procedure can be an exciting introduction into the lives of two very well known people, by way of the historic landmarks dedicated to them.
