More About Vision Correction at Northern Lights LASIK
Dr. Womack is committed to staying abreast of the latest technology and techniques in his field. Northern Lights LASIK is a state-of-the-art practice that is equipped with the IntraLase femtosecond laser and the VISX S4 wavefront-guided excimer laser, for customized vision correction treatment and highly precise surgical outcomes.
Before starting the LASIK procedure, Dr. Womack uses wavefront technology to make a map of the eye's unique shape and refractive qualities, including higher-order aberrations (including some nearly imperceptible vision problems). He uses this information to calibrate the excimer laser used to re-contour the curvature of the cornea.
iLasik Patient Information
To start all-laser LASIK surgery, Dr. Womack uses a femtosecond laser to create a hinged flap on the surface of the cornea. After gently lifting back the flap, the laser eye surgeon uses the calibrated excimer laser to reshape the cornea. This corrects the refractive error causing nearsightedness, farsightedness and / or astigmatism. Once Dr. Womack is satisfied with the new curvature of the cornea, he repositions the corneal flap to its original place, where it naturally re-bonds to the eye without the need for sutures.
Dr. Womack's patients generally find that the procedure is not painful, thanks to the topical anesthetic eye drops that are administered prior to the start of surgery. They also typically notice a dramatic improvement in their vision within 24 to 48 hours after the procedure. In most cases, LASIK patients no longer have to rely on prescription eyewear to see clearly; in fact, more than 99 percent of them achieve 20/20 distance vision or better. Unfortunately, as the eye ages into our 40s and beyond, LASIK may not fully prevent the need for reading glasses and ultimately cataract surgery. It is for this reason Northern Lights LASIK has instituted a 20/20 or It's Free Vision Guarantee.
