Dr. Jacqueline D. Griffiths

Dr. Griffiths was invited to speak at the Korean Ophthalmology Society.
Jacqueline D. Griffiths, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist (practicing in Reston, Virginia) who is well known for her expertise in Laser Vision Correction. Dr. Griffiths began performing LASIK laser eye surgery soon after it was approved by the FDA in 1996 and has since performed thousands of surgeries. Her expertise is heavily sought-after by other eye surgeons and she routinely lectures, both in the United States and abroad; most recently being invited to lecture to ophthalmologists in South Korea and China about Laser Vision Correction advancements. She stays on the cutting edge of laser eye surgery and has participated as an investigator in the CRS-USA LASIK study, which was a large-scale study of LASIK outcomes. The consumer media also recognizes Dr. Griffiths' expertise. She has been selected as a "Top Doctor" by Washingtonian Magazine as well as Health and Beauty Magazine and is often asked to appear in consumer media, such as the local Channel 8 News.
The latest advancement in Laser Vision Correction is Advanced Surface Treatment (AST) also known as Epi-Lasik or Epi-K. AST uses a unique FDA approved epi-keratome "separator," to mechanically cleave the epithelium to make a sheet of surface cells. Unlike the flap of LASIK, this "sheet" is very superficial, sparing 35 percent more corneal tissue. No sharp blades, laser (i.e. Intralase), or alcohol is required. Vision is then corrected using the excimer laser. It has been suggested that AST may provide better outcomes when combined with Custom laser vision correction compared to LASIK procedures, because the bed upon which the laser treats is smoother with this technique.
Dr. Griffiths began performing AST in June 2005 and has become a leading expert on the procedure, traveling worldwide to lecture on the technology to other ophthalmologist. Her lecture, titled "Clinical Experience with Moria Epi-K," discusses the best candidates for the procedure, surgical techniques, and her results. Her results performing AST have been outstanding, with 82 percent achieving 20/25 or better and 96 percent achieving 20/40 or better at one-month post-op. By three-month post-op, 82 percent of patients achieved 20/20 or better, 98 percent of patients achieved 20/25 or better, and 100 percent of patients achieved 20/40 or better.
Dr. Griffiths' goal is to provide excellence in ophthalmology services by providing personalized attention to each patient. This focus on patient care, in combination with Dr. Griffiths' extensive background and surgical experience, provides the optimum visual outcome for each patient.
