Did you ever think it would be possible to see all of these characteristics in your Ophthalmologist?
Growing up with an eye surgeon for a father made childhood slightly different for Dr. Newsom. It wasn't uncommon to find Dr. Newsom working at his father's practice in Gainesville, Florida, learning about the fascinating world of ophthalmology. This experience led to Dr. Newsom's decision at an early age to begin taking the steps necessary to become an ophthalmologist. For a native Floridian, it seemed only natural for Dr. Newsom to attend the University of Florida (UF) for undergraduate and medical school. After just one year as an undergraduate, Dr. Newsom was recognized for his academic achievement by being selected as one the twelve students chosen for the exclusive Junior Honors Medical Program. This prestigious honor allowed him to begin medical school at UF after only two years of undergraduate work. Subsequently, Dr. Newsom served a transitional internship at the world renowned Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Iowa one of the leading eye surgeon training programs in the United States. Currently, he is the only doctor who has been named a Lifetime Visiting Professor at the University of Iowa.

Dr. Newsom's high energy and intense motivation have enabled him to accomplish a great deal at the young age of 37. From the time the patient steps into Newsom Eye & Laser Center for his or her first LASIK screening to the last post-operative evaluation, the patient is seen by Dr. Newsom. This approach allows Dr. Newsom's LASIK patients to be actively involved in the entire refractive surgery process, which leads to a more satisfying LASIK experience and better vision correction outcomes.

More About Vision Correction at Newsom Eye & Laser Center
Since the inception of Newsom Eye & Laser Center in 2001, Dr. Newsom has built a team of dedicated vision professionals. Together, they strive to provide their patients with leading-edge LASIK treatments and outstanding customer service. They take great pride in the fact that most of their new patients are referrals from satisfied patients.
Dr. Newsom uses state-of-the-art laser technologies to deliver safe and effective vision correction treatments. During LASIK surgery, Dr. Newsom first creates a tiny flap in the patient's cornea and then applies an excimer laser, which gently reshapes the cornea so that it can refract light rays properly. For the latter step of the surgery, application of the excimer laser, Dr. Newsom uses the advanced VISX STAR S4 excimer laser platform, which incorporates a variety of technologies, including Iris Registration and ActiveTrak 3-D Active Eye Tracking. Iris Registration is a method that ensures the delivery of the laser treatment to the correct area of the cornea, and ActiveTrak technology follows the tiny, rapid movements of the patient's eye and automatically repositions the excimer laser beam to ensure accuracy. As a result, Dr. Newsom is able to achieve very safe, precise treatments that lead to more rewarding vision correction results.
In addition to LASIK vision correction, Dr. Newsom also specializes in glaucoma therapy and cataract surgery. His surgical skill and dedication have been honored by the American College of Eye Surgeons, which in 2000 selected him as one of only two nationally recognized Surgeons for Excellence in Cataract and Implant Surgery. At Newsom Eye & Laser Center, patients can also receive treatments for macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, detached and torn retina, dry eye syndrome, as well as the advanced Crystalens, ReStor and ReZoom lens implants. Dr. Newsom is also one of the few surgeons in the United States qualified to surgically implant the Artisan Iris Claw Intra Ocular Lens and Staar Internal Contact Lens.
"Thanks to Dr. Newsom's friendly and caring staff, I felt extremely comfortable on the day of my LASIK surgery. The LASIK procedure itself was painless and lasted only about 12 minutes from start to finish. I was amazed that it was done so quickly. After the procedure, I was told to go home and rest my eyes for a couple of hours. I'll never forget waking up from an afternoon nap and saying to myself 'I can see clearly... already.' I haven't said that in 20 years! It was as though I have a fresh set of contact lenses in, and my vision is crisp and clear, without the hassle. Additionally, my night vision and reading vision is great. I couldn't be more satisfied with the results..." Randall O.
