Sam Melki, MD, PhD, is a Harvard-trained vision correction specialist board-certified in ophthalmology. Dr. Melki is a highly skilled surgeon who is one of only a handful of surgeons in the United States to participate in a two-year specialty training program in cornea and refractive surgery. Dr. Melki has performed more than 6,000 LASIK, LASEK, and PRK procedures, and is considered to be a leading authority on laser vision correction surgery, as well as cataract surgery.
Dr. Melki is the founder and medical director of the Boston Laser. He stays on the cutting edge of new developments in vision correction surgery. His leadership in the field has been recognized by the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery for the development of his award-winning technique of M-LASEK. Dr. Melki performs laser vision correction using the VISX STAR-S4 CustomVue laser system. Wavescan technology provides a highly accurate measure of the corneal shape and allows Dr. Melki to perform wavefront-guided Custom LASIK for his patients. This technology ensures precision and accuracy while minimizing night aberrations for patients with large pupils. CustomVue is tailored to the unique characteristics of each patient's eyes, correcting imperfections that previously could not be measured by dated LASIK technologies. Iris registration technology automatically adjusts the laser beam to compensate for any eye rotation during surgery, allowing for more accurate treatment results. Dr. Melki also offers the IntraLase "All Laser LASIK" technique, which uses a laser instead of a blade to create the corneal flap. The combination of CustomVue and IntraLase allows for higher safety and accuracy of the LASIK procedure.
Dr. Melki is a highly skilled cataract surgeon who uses the newest and most advanced surgical techniques. Cataract surgery can be completed in 15 minutes and is performed on an outpatient basis with minimal recovery time. Dr. Melki now offers the newly approved implant lenses (IOLs), ReSTOR and ReZOOM and Crystalens that simultaneously correct for near (reading) and distance (driving) vision.

Sam Melki, MD, PhD, earned his Doctorate of Medicine from Vanderbilt University before earning a Doctorate of Philosophy in Molecular Physiology and Biophysics. Dr. Melki later completed an advanced two-year fellowship program in corneal diseases and laser vision correction at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, where he currently serves as an associate surgeon. Dr. Melki also serves as a senior instructor with the American Academy of Ophthalmology and is on the clinical faculty at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Melki is devoted to the pursuit of continued education in the field of vision correction. His research interests encompass both corneal and refractive surgery. He has authored three textbooks about LASIK, LASEK, and PRK and has helped develop several innovative surgical instruments. He is routinely asked to lecture about advancements in vision correction surgery and has presented to surgeons in the United States and abroad.
