James Mattax, Jr., MD, FACS, and Thomas G. Prater, MD, FACS, our excellent board-certified refractive surgeons, have been providing eye care to our patients across the Ozarks for more than 20 years. After all this time, the quality of your care is still their first priority, so settling for anything less than the most advanced vision-correcting technology is out of the question. Our state-of-the-art equipment and dedication to giving you the best possible vision is why our surgeons lead the way in technical innovation and have successfully completed a combined total of more than 16,500 LASIK procedures. We are also proud to say that our surgery center, conveniently located in our Springfield facility, has again met the high standards for the provision of quality health care set by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care.

In addition to our Springfield office, we also have four other Mattax Neu Prater facilities located in Lebanon, Monett, Branson, and Mountain Grove — convenient if you want to stay close to home, but need screenings and pre- and post-operative care as well as exemplary optometric care. At these facilities, we understand that anything blocking your sight is also getting in the way of your freedom. We are determined to stop this from happening, and our experienced surgeons use their highly specialized skills to do just that.

What Patients Are Saying About Drs. Mattax and Prater

"My vision before LASIK was pretty bad, and I had worn contacts or glasses for about 30 years. I couldn't see the clock at night…I couldn't see individual details of peoples' faces. I selected Mattax Neu Prater because my ophthalmologist recommended them highly. The doctors and staff were very thorough, so when I left after my consult I felt very confident that I would have a great outcome, and I did. Dr. Prater and his staff were very comforting, very reassuring and they made me feel calm. They told me everything that was going to happen. It was quick, over and done before I knew what was happening." —Lisa

"I thought about going through a corporate LASIK discount center. When I realized that Mattax Neu Prater does the IntraLASIK [“iLASIK™”] procedure I went with them because I knew that I could trust them. I knew they would stand behind their name. At Mattax Neu Prater it was a personal thing. You get to know your doctor. Dr. Mattax was wonderful. He just made me feel very comfortable and I trusted him fully. It was a piece of cake." —Avril

"I had worn glasses and contacts for at least 20 years. And since LASIK, my vision is 20/15! That's better than perfect and without contact lenses my life is now more convenient. I selected Mattax Neu Prater because I trust their reputation and my eyesight is very important to me. Dr. Prater is very knowledgeable, very kind. I felt very comfortable trusting my eyesight to him. I would encourage others to seek his help. It was very quick and very painless. I noticed an improvement in about two to three hours. When I woke up from my nap I could see the alarm clock and the letters were clear. That was exciting." —Betty
