Prior to beginning the LASIK procedure, the laser eye surgeons utilize wavefront technology to diagnose patients' refractive errors. This innovative technology allows ophthalmologists at The LASIK Vision Institute™ to diagnose higher order, or extremely subtle, aberrations in the eye. With this data, the laser eye surgeons are able to calibrate the excimer laser that they will use during LASIK surgery to re-shape the patient's cornea.
The first step in the LASIK procedure is for the eye surgeons to create a tiny flap in the patient's corneas with a surgical blade called a microkeratome. The surgeons then gently lift the corneal flap and reshape the underlying tissue, using the adjusted excimer laser. In reshaping the cornea, the laser eye surgeons can correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and/or astigmatism. Once they are content with the newly modified cornea, they carefully put the corneal flap back into place, where it will naturally reconnect to the eye.
Typically, LASIK Tampa patients do not experience pain during LASIK surgery. Also, 98 percent of the clients who receive LASIK surgery with VISX technology achieve 20/20 vision or better one year after the procedure. Post-operative LASIK patients may also find that they no longer need to wear prescription glasses or use contact lenses to see clearly.
