Before LASIK surgery, LVI employs wavefront technology to identify each individual's refractive errors, even higher order aberrations (i.e., almost imperceptible deviations in the cornea). The laser eye surgeon uses this data to adjust the excimer laser to fit the patient's vision correction needs.
Once the excimer laser has been calibrated, Dr. Ireland uses it to begin LASIK surgery, making a small flap in the cornea, to access the underlying tissue. Next, he uses the excimer laser to reshape this corneal tissue, correcting the patient's refractive error in the process. (It is this refractive error that causes nearsightedness, farsightedness and/or astigmatism.) As soon as Dr. Ireland is completely satisfied with the new shape of the cornea, he carefully repositions the corneal flap back in its initial place, where it will ultimately re-bond to the eye.
LASIK Milwaukee patients usually remark that they did not feel any pain during the procedure. More importantly, 98 percent of the patients who receive LASIK with the custom wavefront technology used by the surgeon achieve clearer vision that is 20/20 or better in the first year after LASIK. Also, many patients can see clearly without the need for contact lenses or prescription glasses.
