Kerry K. Assil, MD is a board-certified ophthalmologist who is regarded as one of the world's foremost experts in refractive surgery. He is a lecturer, inventor, teacher and physician in the area of refractive and cataract surgery. He has the distinction of training more ophthalmic surgeons worldwide than any other surgeon. His inventions have been widely used by other surgeons, and he is invited to lecture frequently about his many breakthroughs in vision correction, including lectures at Harvard, Johns Hopkins University and Tokyo University.

About the Assil Eye Institute

Dr. Assil is the Medical Director of the Assil Eye Institute, where LASIK is performed using the latest in wavefront technology. Wavefront technology measures each patient's refractive error in detail, allowing Dr. Assil to obtain higher precision during laser vision correction. Dr. Assil developed the Custom Tailored method of all-laser LASIK procedure. He uses the IntraLase laser to create a 100% blade-free environment. This advanced technology gives Dr. Assil the highest degree of surgical control for the safest and most effective procedure available.

For those not qualified for LASIK, Dr. Assil provides the Verisyse lens. This unique lens, for which Dr. Assil was one of the first investigators in the world, is designed for patients whose prescription or corneal shape does not allow other refractive procedures.

Dr. Assil's Background

Dr. Assil received his undergraduate degree from University of California, Los Angeles and completed his medical school training at the University of California, San Diego. He conducted his internship at St. Mary's Medical Center at UCLA and his ophthalmology residency at University of California, San Diego, Department of Ophthalmology.

He completed a fellowship in Cornea, External Disease and Keratorefractive Surgery at St. Louis University. He served as a professor of ophthalmology at St. Louis University before returning to Los Angeles to found the Assil Eye Institute.

In addition to his impressive educational background and his invitations to speak worldwide, Dr. Assil has authored more than 100 textbooks, textbook chapters and scientific articles.
