More About Vision Correction Options with James S. Lewis, MD

Dr. Lewis uses the VisuMax femtosecond laser platform to provide a customized LASIK solution that is personalized for each patient.

Dr. Lewis performs many of the most advanced ophthalmologic techniques available, including anterior segment optical coherence tomography, wavefront and standard topography, 3-D corneal mapping and high-definition ocular video imaging. During LASIK surgery, Dr. Lewis uses either an advanced microkeratome or, in all-laser LASIK, the VisuMax femtosecond laser to create a very thin flap in the corneal surface. The VisuMax femtosecond laser has a patented curved interface for custom flap creation without corneal distortion or compression. The corneal flap is then lifted, and Dr. Lewis uses the NIDEK topography-guided excimer laser to reshape the cornea and refine the patient's optical system to correct any flaws. By combining the use of NIDEK’s Final Fit software and their excimer laser platform, Dr. Lewis can customize LASIK treatment to provide a lifetime of enhanced visual function that is personalized for each patient. The flap is then returned to its original position, where it bonds firmly and acts as a natural bandage for the eye.

Dr. Lewis also offers Epi-LASIK, a method of laser eye surgery that does not require the creation of a corneal flap. In addition to corneal laser surgeries, Dr. Lewis offers implantable lenses, including Visian ICLs and high-definition Crystalens for treatment of cataracts.
