She earned her undergraduate degree from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts and her medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School in Hanover, New Hampshire. She completed residency training in internal medicine at Deaconess Hospital of Harvard Medical School in Boston and a residency in ophthalmology at the prestigious Moran Eye Center of the University of Utah. She completed specialty fellowship training in cornea and refractive surgery at the Hunkeler Eye Clinic in Kansas City, Missouri.
