Richard Rothman, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist who has committed his practice of ophthalmology primarily to the specialty of Laser Vision Correction. He feels strongly about the life-changing potential of LASIK and other new specialized vision correction techniques. Dr. Rothman has performed nearly 24,000 LASIK and PRK procedures and, as an innovator in the field, has helped spearhead new advancements in corneal surgery during the last 20 years. While a research fellow at Harvard Medical School, he co-developed a specialized instrument for corneal surgery. He was also one of the earliest certified excimer laser surgeons in Northern California in 1995. Patients have traveled from around Nevada and the Western United States to have their eyes treated by Dr. Rothman.

Dr. Rothman is the medical director and senior surgeon for LASIK of Nevada. Each staff member has been individually hand-picked and trained by Dr. Rothman to provide the highest quality evaluation and treatment. For LASIK procedures, Dr. Rothman offers the newest technology called wavefront-optimized (Allegretto) excimer laser system as well as offering alternatives such as wavefront-guided treatments, eye-tracking lasers, or scanning slit laser technologies. The wavefront-optimized and wavefront-guided treatments use a customized laser beam profile to achieve the desired visual result. Dr. Rothman also offers PRK surgery for patients who may not be good candidates for LASIK, and CK procedures to improve reading vision. Dr. Richard Rothman obtained his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University in Chicago. He began his focus in refractive surgery when he completed a research fellowship at the Harvard Medical School, Eye Research Institute where he participated in scientific work that led to the development of the Theratears artificial tear drop. He performed his residency in ophthalmology at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, DC, and completed specialty fellowship training in cornea, refractive surgery, and external disease at Corneal Consultants, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary of Harvard Medical School.

During his fellowship he was fortunate to have worked and studied with some of the early pioneers in refractive surgery. He is an active member of the major ophthalmology associations, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Dr. Rothman also has considerable clinical experience outside of ophthalmology, serving previously as an emergency medicine and family practice physician.
