Corneal Collagen Cross-Linking

Dr. Avi Wallerstein co-founded LASIK MD and has performed more than 50,000 LASIK procedures.

Avi Wallerstein, MD, FRCSC
Dr. Wallerstein completed his medical degree at Queen's University in Kingston, and then specialized in ophthalmology at McGill University in Montreal. He then completed his post-doctoral fellowship training in cornea and laser refractive surgery at North Shore University Hospital and New York University in New York. Very few surgeons in Quebec have this specialized background.

Mark Cohen, MD, CM, FRCSC
Dr. Cohen completed his medical degree and specialization in ophthalmology at the internationally renowned McGill University. While at McGill, he was awarded the prestigious Holmes' Gold Medal, given to the graduate of the faculty of medicine with the highest academic standing upon completion of four years of medical school. He then completed his training with a post-doctoral fellowship in corneal transplantation and refractive surgery

John Lloyd, MD, FRCSC, DABO
Dr. Lloyd has been performing laser vision correction surgery since 1997. Before joining LASIK MD, he worked at the Bochner Eye Institute in Toronto. Dr. Lloyd is certified in the use of several types of excimer lasers, including the state-of-the-art Bausch & Lomb Z100. He teaches eye surgery to ophthalmology residents and gives lectures on ophthalmology to medical students at the University of Toronto. He is on staff at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre as well as at the Kensington Eye Institute.

Paul Sanghera, MD, FRCSC
Upon completing his residency, Dr. Sanghera received surgical training with some of the world's most renowned surgeons. He has performed over 10,000 ocular procedures to date, and is committed to using the latest technologies and techniques in cataract and refractive surgery.

In addition to his work at LASIK MD, Dr. Sanghera is on staff at Mount Sinai Hospital and the Kensington Eye Institute, both located in Toronto, Ontario. He also serves as the co-chairman of the International Ophthalmology Program at the University of Toronto.

Keon Nia, MD, FRCSC
Dr. Nia has performed over 25,000 ocular procedures, and has experience and expertise using the latest and most advanced excimer laser platforms, including the VISX Star S4, Bausch & Lomb Z100 and Allegretto WaveLight. He is also certified in the femtosecond IntraLase all-laser LASIK procedure.

He completed his training in refractive surgery at LASIK MD with some of the top surgeons in North America, and has worked at laser eye surgery centers in Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary and Saskatoon. In 2008, Dr. Nia had advanced custom wavefront surgery on both eyes at LASIK MD.

Dr. Nia has written extensively on ophthalmological and otolaryngological matters. He was the recipient of the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine Research Scholarship and has presented research papers at meetings of the Canadian Ophthalmological Society and at the University of Toronto's Ophthalmology Research Day.

Robert Adam, MD, FRCSC
Dr. Adam has performed thousands of ophthalmic procedures, including refractive, cataract and strabismus surgery. He has specialized in laser refractive surgery, under the training and supervision of Drs. Mark Cohen and Avi Wallerstein, two of North America's most experienced laser refractive surgeons. Dr. Adam has experience with many of the latest refractive surgery technologies. He is experienced in LASIK and PRK procedures, including both standard and advanced custom wavefront techniques.

In addition to his work at LASIK MD, Dr. Adam works at a private clinic in Toronto, and is currently a member of the ophthalmology department at the St. Joseph's Health Centre in Toronto. Dr. Adam is also actively involved in clinical, surgical and didactic teaching for residents and medical students at both the University of Toronto and McMaster University.

Mounir Bashour, MD, CM, FRCSC, FACS, DABO, PhD
Dr. Bashour has been performing laser surgery since 1994 and has extensive experience with several types of lasers and microkeratomes. He has completed more than 45,000 LASIK procedures and has also performed thousands of advanced custom wavefront procedures. Dr. Bashour has worked in several laser centers in Canada, including Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Niagara Falls and Windsor. He was amongst the first ophthalmologists to perform laser refractive procedures in the USA.

Dr. Bashour taught and performed surgery at the teaching hospital of the University of Sherbrooke, where he was ophthalmology clinical assistant professor; director of ophthalmic, plastic and reconstructive surgery; and the director of pediatric ophthalmology. He was also an assistant professor of ophthalmology at McGill University.
