Mounir Bashour, MD, FRCS(C), PhD, DIP.ABO, CM
With extensive experience performing refractive laser surgery, Dr. Bashour has completed more than 50,000 LASIK procedures, including thousands of advanced custom wavefront procedures. Dr. Bashour is one of the few ophthalmologists in the world to have completed three post-doctoral fellowships and he was a part of the first group of ophthalmologists to perform laser refractive procedures in the United States.
Mark Cohen, MD, CM, FRCS(C)
Dr. Mark Cohen co-founded LASIK MD and has performed more than 50,000 LASIK procedures. He is President of LASIK MD, and one of its two National Medical Directors. Dr. Cohen has extensive experience in laser surgery using several types of lasers and microkeratomes. He was one of the first surgeons in North America to use a scanning-spot laser and large flap microkeratome, now a standard in the field of LASIK that has resolved night vision problems. He was also the youngest surgeon in North America to perform LASIK surgery. In conjunction with Bausch & Lomb, he became the first surgeon in the world to clinically assess the new "zero compression" keratome, specifically designed to allow for safer and thinner corneal flaps for LASIK surgery. Dr. Cohen has also performed thousands of advanced custom wavefront procedures.
Dr. Cohen is a certified C-LASIK instructor, one of 14 surgeons in North America with this designation to teach LASIK. He has lectured and taught the PRK and LASIK procedures to more than 100 eye surgeons and ophthalmologists-in-training. He has given six international courses on beginner and advanced LASIK techniques. Dr. Cohen is co-author of the governmental Council for the Evaluation of Health Care Technology's report on LASIK and PRK.
Dr. John Lloyd, MD, FRCS(C), DIP.ABO
Dr. John Lloyd has performed more than 5,000 ocular procedures. His training includes ophthalmology residency at the world-renowned Albert Einstein Medical College in New York, where he was named Chief Resident. Dr. Lloyd is certified in several types of state-of-the-art excimer lasers. He is also an active lecturer on both anterior segment surgery and comprehensive ophthalmology.
Eric Tam, MD, FRCS(C)
Dr. Tam has performed more than 5,000 ocular procedures. Over the past five years, he has taught numerous ophthalmologists-in-training how to perform cataract surgery using the latest technologies, techniques and lens implants. Dr. Tam has published articles on ophthalmology in scientific literature and has also given presentations at major ophthalmology conferences, including at the Canadian Ophthalmological Society.
Avi Wallerstein, MD, FRCS(C)
Dr. Avi Wallerstein co-founded LASIK MD and has performed more than 50,000 LASIK procedures. He is one of LASIK MD's two National Medical Directors. Dr. Wallerstein has worked in several laser vision correction clinics throughout Canada, Europe and Asia. He is one of 14 surgeons in North America who is a certified C-LASIK instructor; allowing him to teach the LASIK procedure to other surgeons. The first laser eye surgery teaching curriculum for ophthalmology students is attributed to Dr. Wallerstein.
Throughout his refractive career, Dr. Wallerstein has played an important role in the development of new technologies. As one of the first surgeons in North America to use Bausch & Lomb's Technolas 217 laser and Hansatome keratome, Dr. Wallerstein contributes his expertise as an investigator for new technologies to Bausch & Lomb. Dr. Wallerstein was the first Montreal surgeon to perform the now standard vertical flap LASIK technique for myopia. Dr. Wallerstein has also performed thousands of advanced custom wavefront procedures.
