More About Vision Correction at LASIK Today

At LASIK Today, Drs. Kourouyan, Shultz, Montoya, Garrana and Kao utilize state-of-the-art technology in all their procedures. For LASIK, they use wavefront digital technology, the IntraLase FS laser and latest VISX excimer laser. The IntraLase laser is used during blade-free LASIK as an alternative to the microkeratome blade used in traditional LASIK, while the VISX laser allows the highest level of precision and control when correcting the shape of the cornea.

To perform Custom LASIK, the surgeon first uses the wavefront technology to create a map of the eye. This map is as unique to each person as a fingerprint and allows the doctor to detect very minute imperfections that were undetectable using previous technology. Next, the doctor uses the IntraLase laser to create a flap of tissue on the surface of the eye's cornea. This flap is lifted back, and the VISX excimer laser is used to correct the flaws detected during the diagnostic wavefront mapping process. The flap is then placed back over the cornea to serve as a natural bandage and to aid in the healing process. No stitches are used in the procedure, and recovery requires almost no downtime.
