Dr. Yaron S. Rabinowitz

LASIK in Santa Clarita, Lancaster and the surrounding area

Yaron S. Rabinowitz, MD, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist renowned for his ability to deliver exceptional vision correction results. As the lead eye surgeon of Laser Eye Associates, Dr. Rabinowitz has helped thousands of patients achieve clear vision through LASIK. Dr. Rabinowitz is recognized worldwide as a leading authority on refractive and cornea surgery, and he was instrumental in the development of advanced laser technologies for the treatment of myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism.

Due to his extensive expertise, Dr. Rabinowitz is frequently invited to serve as a clinical investigator for the FDA. He was involved in the evaluation of both the Alcon LADARwave and the popular VISX excimer laser platforms. Dr. Rabinowitz was also one of the first eye surgeons in the nation to perform the bladeless LASIK procedure with IntraLase and the novel "down-up" LASIK procedure.

Dr. Rabinowitz strongly believes that optimum LASIK results can be achieved only through the use of the best LASIK technologies. This is why his offices feature four separate laser platforms: the VISX excimer laser, the Alcon LADARvision excimer laser, the Allegretto wave laser and the IntraLase femtosecond laser. Dr. Rabinowitz performs thorough patient evaluations to determine which laser combination is the best for each patient.

In addition to being renowned as an exceptionally gifted LASIK Los Angeles surgeon, Dr. Rabinowitz is also an expert in corneal disease. He has made several breakthrough research findings regarding the genetic causes of various cornea diseases, such as keratoconus. Dr. Rabinowitz was one of the researchers who pioneered the Intacs procedure with IntraLase for the treatment of keratoconus. His contribution to the field of cornea surgery was recognized in 2005 by the French Eye Society, which invited Dr. Rabinowitz to give a keynote lecture on keratoconus. Dr. Rabinowitz is the only American eye surgeon who has received this honor.

About LASIK Eye Surgery with Dr. Yaron Rabinowitz

Dr. Rabinowitz performs all surgical procedures at Laser Eye Associates at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Prior to recommending any treatment, he performs thorough patient evaluations to determine whether they are candidates for LASIK. The next step of the treatment process is the selection of the most appropriate laser instruments. Dr. Rabinowitz's surgical suite features an array of advanced laser platforms, including the VISX S4 excimer laser with CustomVue technology Alcon LADARvision excimer laser system with LADARwave wavefront technology, the Allegretto wave laser and the IntraLase femtosecond laser.

Dr. Rabinowitz uses the wavefront systems of the VISX S4 and Alcon LADARvision platforms to create extremely precise maps of his patients' corneas. These maps reflect event the most subtle optical errors caused by imperfections in the cornea. Dr. Rabinowitz uses the corneal maps to program the excimer laser components of the VISX S4 and Alcon LADARvision platforms. As a result, the lasers are able to correct the unique flaws of each individual cornea.

In order to further enhance the precision and safety of LASIK, Dr. Rabinowitz uses the IntraLase femtosecond laser. This is a sophisticated surgical instrument that creates a thin flap in the corneal surface. Compared to the flap created with a handheld mechanical blade, the flap created with the IntraLase laser is smoother and thinner. As a result, IntraLase bladeless LASIK patients typically experience faster recovery and improved vision correction results.

As a highly accomplished corneal surgeon, Dr. Rabinowitz also offers the "blended vision" surgery for patients suffering from presbyopia, as well as Intacs corneal implants for the correction of keratoconus and advanced myopia.

Dr. Yaron Rabinowitz: Professional Background

After completing his medical degree, Dr. Yaron S. Rabinowitz performed an ophthalmology residency at Pennsylvania State University Medical Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania. He then completed a fellowship in cornea and refractive surgery at the Doheny Eye Clinic of the University of Southern California and a fellowship in ocular and molecular genetics at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Rabinowitz currently serves as a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles, and as Director of Ophthalmology Research at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Dr. Rabinowitz is the author of numerous book chapters and scientific articles, and he continues to research various aspects of refractive and cornea surgery. Dr. Rabinowitz's cornea research is supported by the National Eye Institute (NEI) of the National Institutes of Health — an honor received by very few LASIK surgeons in the world. In addition, Dr. Rabinowitz's professional accomplishments have been recognized by VISX, which named him a "VISX Star Surgeon" — an award bestowed upon the top 5 percent of LASIK surgeons nationwide.
