More about the IntraLase laser for Blade-free LASIK

At the beginning of the LASIK procedure, a small flap is made in the cornea or front part of your eye. Dr. Jay understood early on that blade-free LASIK offered considerable advantages over the older technology with a metal blade or microkeratome for this important first step.

Lakeshore Eye Care Professionals, SC utilizes state-of-the-art technology.

With the metal blade, the doctor makes a blind pass over the eye. This may result in the flap being off-center or irregular in shape. With the IntraLase laser, however, Dr. Jay has the benefit of a large image of your eye on a screen so she knows that the flap is correctly positioned each and every time. In addition, there is less pressure on the eye during the procedure compared to the blade; the flap thickness can be customized for the patient; healing is quicker and patients see better afterwards. This added precision means patients who were told in the past that they were poor LASIK candidates may now benefit from LASIK vision correction.

Blade-free LASIK is so precise that Navy pilots are now allowed to have LASIK, but also so safe that it's called "LASIK for chickens."

More about the VISX laser for the second step of the LASIK Procedure

After creating the corneal flap with the IntraLase laser, Dr. Jay then uses an excimer laser to change the shape of your eye to allow you to see better without glasses. She has chosen the premium VISX STAR S4 excimer laser because it is one of the world's leading LASIK technologies. This system utilizes a WaveScan system to evaluate your vision before the procedure and create a personalized WaveFront treatment plan.

A WaveScan is much like a finger print, so no two are alike. A WaveFront guided LASIK treatment is 25 times more accurate than traditional methods. The VISX laser also has the added safety feature of "iris registration" which means that the laser focuses on individual aspects of your iris to be assured that the laser is well-centered and correctly oriented.
