A board-certified ophthalmologist and Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Marc Hirsch, MD, is one of Wisconsin’s premier vision correction specialists. His patients undergo treatment in an atmosphere of uncompromised safety. Dr. Hirsch involves himself with all facets of patient care, from preoperative consultation through postoperative care. Dr. Hirsch has unique understanding of a patient’s important decision to undergo laser vision correction, as he had laser vision correction performed on himself.

Although Dr. Hirsch stays on the cutting edge of the newest treatment technologies, he is conservative in his approach to patient care. Each patient is meticulously examined by Dr. Hirsch. He recommends treatment only for those who pass a rigid candidacy requirement and whom he expects to achieve optimum results. Dr. Hirsch’s goal is to provide each patient with exceptional results that exceed expectations.

The first step for patients who are interested in reducing their dependency on glasses or contacts is to make an appointment for a free preoperative consultation. In your consultation you will undergo examination by Dr. Hirsch. Contact Dr. Hirsch at (866) 541-3633 to learn more about your options for vision correction surgery and to schedule a complimentary LASIK consultation.

More about Our Technology

Dr. Hirsch uses the custom wavefront all-laser Lasik procedure. There are two components to this advanced technology that ensures the optimal combination of safety and accuracy.

The first component is using the IntraLase laser to create a 100% blade-free environment. This advanced technology gives Dr. Hirsch the highest degree of surgical control for the safest and most effective procedure available. Dr. Hirsch offers his patients the Intralase (blade-free) LASIK alternative to traditional LASIK. With Intralase a laser is used to create the corneal flap as opposed to a blade (microkeratome).

The second component uses the VISX S4 excimer laser to create the most advanced custom treatments for laser vision correction. With this technology, the light-focusing power of each eye is individually measured and adjusted, in 200 separate locations. These measurements allow the creation of an individualized "corneal map" for each patient. These higher order aberrations are then programmed into the laser so that a new corneal curvature can be created with the highest precision. This “wavefront” measurement combined with the traditional treatment of your eyeglass prescription creates a customized treatment aimed at the highest quality of vision.

The laser also uses pupil measurements, called iris registration, to account for any rotation that occurs in the eye when changing from the sitting position to laying flat on your back. This is important since pre-operative measurements are taking while sitting and the laser treatment is performed while a patient lays flat on his or her back. This accuracy becomes increasingly important as levels of astigmatism increase.

The use of Custom WaveFront LASIK in combination with IntraLase provides extremely safe and precise refractive surgery. Studies have shown that a combination of Intralase and VISX laser technologies has proven capable of producing the best possible LASIK results.

More about Marc Hirsch, MD

Marc Hirsch, MD, earned his Doctorate of Medicine from Chicago Medical School in 1998, before serving a medical internship at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Hirsch completed his ophthalmology residency at the prestigious Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City. Dr. Hirsch performed his first refractive surgery during his residency program. Doctors at Columbia Presbyterian invented the use of the excimer laser to correct vision and Dr. Hirsch was fortunate to have trained under these physicians.

He was then accepted into one of the most competitive fellowship training programs in ophthalmology, through which he worked closely with Roger Steinert, MD, and Michael Raizman, MD, two pioneers in the fields of refractive and corneal surgery. While participating in the select fellowship program, Dr. Hirsch served on the ophthalmology staff for Harvard Medical School and Tuft’s Medical School in Boston.

Dr. Hirsch is a member of Eye Physician Associates, a state-of-the-art medical practice catering to the eye care needs of Wisconsin residents from three convenient locations: Milwaukee, Mequon, and St. Francis. This practice has served the Milwaukee community for over 65 years.

Dr. Hirsch is an active member in the major ophthalmology associations, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He is an active member of the Milwaukee Ophthalmologic Society. Dr. Hirsch is a coveted speaker who speaks nationally and abroad about advances in laser vision correction. He currently serves on the medical staff of Aurora St. Lukes Hospital and Columbia St. Mary’s Ozaukee Hospital.
