More About Vision Correction at the Cornea and Laser Eye Institute
When performing LASIK and other laser vision correction procedures, Dr. Hersh and his team at the Cornea and Laser Eye Institute use the latest diagnostic and surgical technologies. To map the patient's corneal topography, Dr. Hersh employs several systems: Pentacam HR, Orbscan II, EyeSys, Keraton and PAR. For flap creation during LASIK, he uses the IntraLase femtosecond laser, while for corneal reshaping, he relies on the Wavelight Allegretto Eye-Q excimer laser.
Dr. Hersh exclusively performs all-laser LASIK, also known as bladeless LASIK or IntraLASIK. His first step is to perform a wavefront analysis in order to assess the patient's candidacy for LASIK and to diagnose higher order aberrations, vision errors more subtle than those indicated by a traditional prescription. Next, the IntraLase femtosecond laser is used to create a thin flap in the cornea, the outermost layer of the eye. This method of flap creation is more precise than the traditional method, in which a handheld surgical tool known as a microkeratome is used. Next Dr. Hersh applies cool laser energy from the Wavelight Allegretto Eye-Q excimer laser to the exposed corneal tissue, reshaping it to correct myopia, hyperopia and/or astigmatism. Finally, the corneal flap is restored to its natural position, where it protects the surgical area during recovery.
The majority of patients who undergo LASIK or other vision correction procedures with Dr. Hersh achieve 20/20 vision or better and are able to reduce or completely eliminate their reliance on eyeglasses or contact lenses.
What Do Patients Say About the Cornea and Laser Eye Institute?
"Dr. Hersh and his staff were excellent. I was comfortable from the time I walked in until the time I left after the procedure. My vision went from 20/800 to 20/20 in one day. I would recommend the Cornea and Laser Eye Institute to anyone." —Luke Petitgout, Pro Athlete, New York Giants Football, East Rutherford, NJ
"...as a skier and a swimmer, LASIK is one of the best things I've ever done for my quality of life. I sing the praises of your work to anyone who will listen and have given your number to many." —Dave Stewart, WPLJ-FM, New York
"Everything and everyone related to this whole procedure has been fantastic. It's a lot more fun to do things like...moto roadracing school when you can SEE CLEARLY and more effectively than ever in your life!" —Alan Wilzig, Banker
"I asked my ophthalmologist who she would go to for laser surgery and she recommended Dr. Hersh without reservation...Dr. Hersh is calm, careful and all that his reputation would lead one to expect." —Tracy Peter, Consultant and mother of three boys, Cresskill, NJ
"To tell the truth, I don't know where to begin nor do I have the words to aptly describe my experience during April at CLEI. I must respectfully say, however, that an award should be given to you guys for the Best Eye Care Team on the planet, PERIOD.
Dr. Hersh, to say that you and your team are professional, courteous, knowledgeable, friendly, understanding and always willing to listen would be a major understatement...CLEI has taken eye care to the next level!!
My vision checked out at 20/20 the next morning but that's just the beginning. Every day since then my vision has become crisper, cleaner and clearer unlike my previous surgery. You guys are the best." —Kimani Braithwaite, Nassau, Bahamas
"I have found that the benefits of LASIK are immense. The surgery itself was fairly quick and painless. The morning after the surgery, everything seemed bright and clear. It was almost like someone had turned on a light. Every day I remind myself I don't have to deal with my contact lenses. Along with not being a slave to contacts, I don't have to deal with the cloudy and gritty sensation of contacts, as well as the irritation and fatigue my eyes felt with the prolonged use. I no longer feel like a 'geek' wearing glasses. I look forward to getting dressed up for a party. I can't wait to go skiing this winter. I'll be able to admire the view from the mountaintop (and not have to carry contact solution and an extra pair of glasses 'just in case'). I thank Dr. Hersh and Dr. Fry for their expertise and especially Dr. Hersh's skill as a LASIK specialist. I appreciate and thank the staff for their careful and wonderful care both pre-op and post-op. I am really, really glad I did it." —Dr. Donna S. Goon, DMD, Dentist, Tenafly, NJ
"My experience at the Cornea and Laser Eye Institute was pure bliss! This was the most stress-free medical experience I've ever had. The Institute's atmosphere is very patient oriented. From the friendly and courteous staff to the comfortable waiting area complete with refreshments, the Cornea and Laser Eye Institute cannot be beat. I now read 20/15 — better than perfect! I cannot express how pleased I am with my results and will continue to recommend the Cornea and Laser Eye Institute to everyone." —Kevin J. Ryan, Sheriff's Detective, Nutley, NJ
