More About Vision Correction at Johannesburg Vision Clinic

Johannesburg Vision Clinic

Using the safest and most effective technology is a priority of Dr. Guglielmetti, and he uses the Schwind Amaris for precise laser vision correction. The impressive features of this laser improve the predictability of the results and lower treatment time, making it a superior choice. The Amaris laser's versatility allows Dr. Guglielmetti the following capabilities:

  • Aberration free (aspheric treatment) - a tissue-saving procedure
  • Ocular Wavefront (whole eye wavefront)
  • Corneal Wavefront
  • Presbymax (presbyopia treatment) which increases depth of field and reading ability

The Amaris can be used to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. It compensates for rotations of the eye or different positions of the eyes; it also corrects higher order aberrations due to slight irregularities on the corneal surface. LASIK surgery with the Amaris takes only seconds being one of the most advanced lasers used in laser vision correction.

Prior to LASIK surgery, Dr. Guglielmetti may choose to use wavefront technology to create a "map" or "fingerprint" of the patient's refractive errors, including higher order aberrations (i.e., subtle vision problems that cannot be detected with another diagnostic system). This information is used to guide the excimer laser during the LASIK procedure.

During LASIK surgery, Dr. Guglielmetti creates a small flap in the surface of the cornea. He then folds back the flap and uses an excimer laser to carefully reshape the cornea. Once the corneal tissue has been properly shaped, Dr. Guglielmetti returns the flap to its original position, where it naturally seals itself to the underlying tissue.

Dr. Guglielmetti's Johannesburg LASIK patients typically notice an improvement in their vision within one to two days of their procedure. Some achieve such great results that they no longer have to wear glasses or contact lenses to see clearly.

What Do Patients Say About Dr. Guglielmetti?

"I am typing this letter sitting comfortably in my chair without any glasses. A possibility that prior to me meeting you was only a dream as all the optometrist that I have met before has told me it is impossible to have this operation for people that are farsighted. Today I can honestly say that I am recommending this operation to everybody that I see wearing glasses. It has certainly changed my life and I am sure that I will never look back.

I really appreciate your professional approach to finding a solution to my sight problem. Explaining everything in detail and giving me the different options is exactly what I needed to put my mind at ease before making the decision.

Giving me the assurance with the multiple crosschecking of my eyes prescription and also taking care of the redness in my eyes before you did the operation showed me that you are not in this business purely to make money but more so to help people like myself better their sight and quality of life.

The hardest part of this procedure is convincing yourself that it is not a dream and you can actually read everything and anything. Thank you once again for the wonderful gift." —Barend van Heerden
