What Dr. Goldstein’s Patients Say

"I am a Tennis Pro, and could not function well playing tennis, especially with my contact lenses drying out in the wind and sun. I had LASIK on both eyes, both done the same day. I could see really well, almost immediately! My new vision helped me win the Women’s Tennis Open in Ann Arbor in 2008!" —Yasmin Kashef, Ann Arbor, MI

"I like to fish and camp. Needless to say, handling contact lenses in those situations is not the best thing for me. And my glasses used to get covered with sweat on warmer days. I had LASIK surgery done on both eyes, and I had no problems. Dr. Goldstein has a really unique approach to surgery, and his voice was very calming. He kept me informed of the progress with each step of surgery, so I knew that things were progressing smoothly. Recently, I went to my cabin. It was a beautiful day, so I went down by the water. I could see every detail. The flies were buzzing around, and the fish were going for them, so I went and got my fishing rod and flies. I began casting, and realized that I could see the hackles on the flies that I was casting. I used to have trouble doing this even with my glasses on. Now I have another reason to look forward to my next fishing trip!! —Peter Treboldi, West Bloomfield, MI

"My husband and I are both very active, and we bike and run together quite a bit. It was never easy dealing with contact lenses drying out while we were training, and glasses just don’t work in those situations. I had LASIK on both eyes, both done the same day. It was incredibly easy, and I could not believe how quickly and smoothly the whole thing was! I have perfect vision in both eyes!! It is awesome!!" —Randi Szilagyi, Chicago, IL

Dr. Goldstein is dedicated to staying current with any innovations in eye care. That’s why his state-of-the-art practice is equipped with the most advanced and accurate vision correction technology. At Laser Eye Care Center, he uses the VISX Star S4 excimer laser with CustomVue wavefront technology to deliver customized, highly accurate vision correction results.

Prior to starting the LASIK procedure, the Greater Detroit LASIK surgeon uses wavefront diagnostic technology to capture the eye’s unique refractive error that is causing the vision problem. With this advanced imaging system, he can even capture higher-order aberrations, or the nearly imperceptible vision errors that other eye surgeons may miss. Dr. Goldstein uses the diagnostic information to calibrate the VISX Star S4 excimer laser that re-contours the cornea.

Dr. Goldstein starts LASIK surgery by using either a surgical instrument called a microkeratome or a femtosecond laser (depending on the patient’s preference and eye anatomy) to create a small flap in the surface of the cornea. The laser eye surgeon gently lifts back the flap before using the adjusted excimer laser to re-shape the curvature of the cornea, thereby correcting the refractive error causing nearsightedness, farsightedness and / or astigmatism. Once he is satisfied with the new shape of the cornea, he carefully replaces the corneal flap in its original position, where it naturally re-bonds to the eye, without the need for sutures.

The Greater Detroit LASIK patients treated by Dr. Goldstein are happy to discover that the procedure is not painful, and that it typically provides an improvement in vision within 24 to 48 hours after surgery. Often, Dr. Goldstein’s patients no longer need to depend on daily prescription eyewear to see clearly, and more than 99 percent of patients attain 20/20 vision, or better.
