Dr. Gold's extensive experience, training and skill allow him to confidently perform an array of vision correction treatments, including traditional LASIK, WaveFront-assisted LASIK and Epi-LASIK. The latter is a blade-free procedure where a special device called an epikeratome is used to separate the outermost layer of the cornea. Then the excimer laser is applied to reshape the cornea so that it can properly refract light rays and improve vision. Due to the fact that the Epi-LASIK method detaches a significantly thinner layer of cornea than the traditional LASIK procedure, Dr. Gold is able to offer Epi-LASIK to patients whose thin corneas would otherwise disqualify them from LASIK treatments.
To enhance safety and further improve the results of LASIK surgery, Dr. Gold also offers WaveFront-guided CustomVue laser treatment with AMO WaveScan technology with Iris Registration and the state-of-the-art VISX STAR S4 excimer laser. This technological breakthrough allows him to create a 3-D map of the eye detailing the irregularities that go undetected in traditional LASIK scans. By using this map when programming the excimer laser, Dr. Gold is able to achieve a very precise and highly customized vision correction treatment. In addition to laser procedures, Dr. Gold also performs conductive keratoplasty (CK) for patients over 45 who wish to correct their presbyopia and/or farsightedness. Jeffrey D. Gold, MD, FACS, earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Tennessee. Dr. Gold completed his ophthalmology residency at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. To further his education, Dr. Gold has also completed mini-fellowships in refractive surgery at the Casebeer Refractive Surgery Center, Johns Hopkins University and the Cleveland Eye Clinic. He was instrumental in the development of the Yale Laser Center, and has been a faculty member at both Yale University and the University of Utah.
Dr. Gold maintains active memberships in several renowned organizations, including the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the International Society of Refractive Surgery and the Connecticut Society of Eye Physicians.
