Dr. Jeffrey D. Gold
Helping patients seeking laser vision correction in Hamden and the surrounding area
Jeffrey D. Gold, MD, FACS, is a board-certified ophthalmologist with more than 45 years of experience in eye surgery and special expertise in laser technology. He is one of the leading refractive surgeons in Connecticut and has performed more than 10,000 LASIK procedures and more than 1,000 Epi-LASIK procedures. Dr. Gold underwent radial keratotomy (RK) surgery himself in 1992, and through this experience he gained a deep appreciation of the patient perspective. Since then he has performed laser vision correction on numerous family members.
Dr. Gold's record of excellence has earned him several coveted awards. For five consecutive years he was honored as one of the "Top 100 Surgeons" by Laser Vision Centers, Inc. "for achieving excellence in refractive surgery." Reaching one of the highest total individual case volumes ranked him among this elite surgeon group. In addition, he has been named one of "America's Top Ophthalmologists" by the Consumers' Research Council of America.
Dr. Gold believes that personal attention and communication are the keys to a successful vision correction treatment, and he takes time to personally address all of his patients' concerns and questions. His vision care philosophy is strongly rooted in the belief that the patient and the surgeon should work as a team. To help achieve optimal vision correction outcomes and patient satisfaction, Dr. Gold personally performs all screenings, surgical planning, surgery and postoperative care. Each patient receives extensive information about his or her condition and the treatment options available, including a thorough discussion of possible complications. This approach alleviates patients' anxiety and helps Dr. Gold develop individualized treatment plans.

More About Vision Correction at Liberty Vision
Dr. Gold and his entire team at Liberty Vision are committed to providing exceptional patient care by combining the latest advances in laser vision correction technology with a warm yet professional attitude. This is why so many doctors and other health care professionals choose Dr. Gold as their own laser vision correction surgeon. As a testament to Liberty Vision's reputation for excellence, the U.S. Commerce Association has awarded the practice with the "Best of Hamden" award for six consecutive years (20082013).
Dr. Gold's extensive experience, training and skill allow him to confidently perform an array of vision correction treatments, including traditional LASIK, wavefront-assisted custom LASIK and Epi-LASIK. The latter is a blade-free procedure where a special device called an epikeratome is used to separate the outermost layer of the cornea. Then, the excimer laser is applied to reshape the cornea so that it can properly refract light rays and improve vision. Due to the fact that the Epi-LASIK method detaches a significantly thinner layer of cornea than the traditional LASIK procedure, Dr. Gold is able to offer Epi-LASIK to patients whose thin corneas would otherwise disqualify them from LASIK treatments. Because of its dramatically enhanced safety profile, Epi-LASIK has become Dr. Gold's procedure of choice for vision correction.
To enhance safety and further improve the results of laser vision correction surgery, Dr. Gold only performs wavefront-guided CustomVue laser treatment with AMO WaveScan technology, iris registration and the state-of-the-art VISX STAR S4 excimer laser. This technological breakthrough allows him to create a 3D map of the eye detailing the irregularities that go undetected in traditional laser vision correction scans. By using this map when programming the excimer laser, Dr. Gold is able to achieve a very precise and highly customized vision correction treatment. He also performs the newly FDA-approved Custom MonoVision Epi-LASIK procedure.

"Dr. Gold has changed my life. He put an anxiety I had about the surgery at ease and I have felt well taken care of at every point of treatment and follow-up. I have had 100% confidence in my care with Dr. Gold." Dr. Danielle Moreggi, Psychologist
"Now I am free of glasses for the first time in 30 years. I wish I could have done it decades ago, but the risk level was not acceptable until recent advances." Dr. Neeraj Mangla, Anesthesiologist
"The results have been amazing! I love skiing and scuba diving without glasses or contacts. I am so grateful for being able to see!" Dr. Amy O'Donnell, Neurologist
"As an ED nurse, I work 12-hour shifts. My contacts would be falling out by the end of the shift. I am now one month post surgery. I still grab for the invisible glasses on my nose. Thank you to everyone that works with Dr. Gold!" Mrs. Alison Tieman, Emergency Department RN
"The entire staff at Liberty Vision was wonderful and everyone was so comforting and genuinely nice people. That is so important in an office where people are nervous. Thank you Dee, Sylvana and especially Dr. Gold." Mrs. Rebecca Brown, Dental Assistant
"The only way I can describe my experience with Epi-LASIK with Dr. Gold and Liberty Vision is that it has been LIFE CHANGING.
"After years of thinking I was not a Laser Vision Correction candidate (due to my dry eyes and astigmatism), not only did it turn out that I am, but my vision is incredible now. I no longer see doubles or halos, and my vision is 20/20 in one eye, and 20/15 in the other!
"Another reason I really had such a great experience is the attentiveness of the doctor himself, a rarity these days. Dr. Gold called me literally two minutes after I submitted an inquiry form on their website. He was so hands-on throughout the process. I feel lucky that it was him I chose!
"In short a great experience, and completely life changing!" Cha I, New Haven
