Advanced LASIK Procedures in South Bay with Dr. Gaster

A happy patient in post-op with Dr. Gaster
Dr. Ronald Gaster offers bladeless LASIK, also called all-laser LASIK or iLASIK (when performed with the VISX Star S4 excimer laser). This procedure can be used to correct mild to moderate nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. The bladeless LASIK procedure is a variation of LASIK that does not require the use of a blade. Instead, the corneal flap is created with a special laser the IntraLase femtosecond laser which creates a more even flap that reduces the risk of complications.
Before beginning laser treatment a 3D image (map) of the eye is created using wavefront technology. This map reflects even the minutest imperfections in corneal shape. Dr. Gaster uses this map to program the excimer laser so that patients receive highly customized treatment.
Next, the IntraLase technology is used to create the corneal flap. After the flap is created, Dr. Gaster lifts it out of the way and administers excimer laser energy onto the underlying corneal tissues. He performs this with either the Allegretto wavefront-optimized excimer laser or the VISX Star S4 wavefront-guided excimer laser.
Dr. Gaster completes the bladeless LASIK procedure by replacing the corneal flap into its original position. The flap, which acts as a bandage, helps promote faster, more comfortable recovery. The vast majority of Dr. Gaster's patients notice a significant improvement in their visual acuity the next day after surgery. They typically achieve perfect or near perfect vision of 20/20 or better.
In order to promote patient safety and ensure the best possible results, Dr. Gaster performs LASIK only for those patients who satisfy the LASIK criteria. Some patients who are not candidates for LASIK may be able to undergo PRK a different laser vision correction surgery that does not require the creation of the corneal flap.
