Rocky Mountain Surgery Centres, the private surgical suite of Demong Associate Eyecentre, offers some of the most advanced technologies available. Dr. Demong specializes in bladeless LASIK surgery and was one of the first surgeons in Alberta to perform IntraLASIK. During the procedure, Dr. Demong first uses the highly accurate IntraLase FS60 femtosecond laser to create a flap on the surface of the eye. Then he uses the Wavelight Allegretto Eye Q 400 mHz Wavefront Optimized laser to reshape the cornea, transforming your vision. The flap is then gently eased back over the newly shaped area and acts like a natural bandage for the eye. After a short recovery period, patients typically can expect excellent functional vision with little to no need for eye glasses or contact lenses.
Dr. Demong also uses some of the latest technologies when performing refractive lens exchange (RLE) surgery. During this procedure, he first uses Aqualase Infiniti surgical system to remove the patient's natural lens and to create a space for a prescription foldable lens implant. Then he inserts a tinted, foldable acrylic lens implant that provides clear vision at all distances. The patient requires no stitches and no patch afterward, and can return to most activities within a week.
Dr. Demong also performs advanced corneal surgeries, including DSEK, corneal cross-linking and corneal transplant procedures.
More About Thaddeus Demong, MD
Thaddeus Demong, MD, completed a medical degree at the University of Alberta and an internship at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. He continued his training with an ophthalmology residency at the University of Alberta Hospital and a corneal and refractive surgery fellowship at the University of Florida, Gainesville. Dr. Demong has served as a Clinical Instructor at the University of Calgary Medical School and as an advisor and consultant on laser eye surgery training and equipment guidelines for the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. In addition, he is the former president of the Alberta Ophthalmology Society. As a dedicated corneal specialist, he was the first, and is the current Medical Director of the Lions Eye Bank of Southern Alberta. In 1991, he became one of the first 50 surgeons in North America to perform laser vision correction, under the guidance of internationally prominent laser eye surgeons Dr. Marguerite McDonald and Dr. Stephen Trokel. Dr. Demong is a member of several prestigious medical organizations, including the Asia-Pacific Intraocular Implant Association and the International Society of Refractive Keratoplasty. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. In addition, Dr. Demong is a board member of the Alcon Master Club.
