For LASIK surgery, Drs. Chokshi and Coluccelli use the Bausch and Lomb Zyoptix laser system. Zyoptix is a custom wavefront-guided system able to measure up to 65 different corneal aberrations in comparison to the previous standard of three. Dr. Coluccelli was the first surgeon in the area to utilize Orbscan technology. Orbscan provides 3-D topographical maps of both the front and back of the cornea, making LASIK safer and more effective.
In addition to LASIK, PRK and LASEK laser vision correction, Drs. Chokshi and Colucelli also offer correction for presbyopia. By implanting leading-edge IOLs (intraocular lenses), such as Crystalens or ReStor, they are able to simultaneously correct patients’ distance, intermediate and reading vision.

Amit Chokshi, MD, is a graduate of the Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami. After completing his residency at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, Dr. Chokshi completed refractive and corneal surgery fellowships at Laser and Corneal Surgery Associates and New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, He has served as the director of the University of Florida Laser Eye Center in Jacksonville. Dr. Chokshi has also worked as an assistant professor and the director of the cornea and external disease division at the University of Florida Department of Ophthalmology in Gainesville. Dr. Chokshi is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the International Society of Refractive Surgery, the Tear Film and Ocular Surface Society, and the Cornea Society.
Gerard A. Coluccelli, MD, graduated from McGill University in Montreal before earning his medical degree at State University of New York in Syracuse. He performed his residency in Syracuse, serving as the Chief Resident of Ophthalmology at Upstate Medical Center. Dr. Coluccelli completed specialty fellowship training at the Azar Eye Clinic and served as a part-time clinical instructor of ophthalmology at Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans. Dr. Coluccelli co-founded the Baptist Eye Institute and is currently serving as the chairman of ophthalmology at Baptist Hospital in Jacksonville. A member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the International Society of Refractive Surgery, Dr. Coluccelli provides the highest quality of comprehensive medical and surgical eye care to patients throughout northeast Florida and southern Georgia.
