More About Vision Correction at Chu Vision Institute

Dr Chu will guide you through the decision-making process and helps you see how each option fits into your story.

Dr. Chu uses only the most advanced laser technology in his LASIK procedures, allowing him to provide vision correction treatment that is tailored to the patient’s unique needs, not to mention extremely precise results. His state-of-the-art practice is equipped with the VISX advanced CustomVue laser with wavefront-guided technology to produce highly customized visual outcomes.

Before starting the LASIK procedure, Dr. Chu uses wavefront imaging technology to capture a unique map of the eye’s topography, including extremely subtle refractive errors called "higher-order" aberrations. He uses this map to calibrate the excimer laser used to re-shape the curvature of the cornea.

To start the LASIK procedure, Dr. Chu uses either a microkeratome (mechanical surgical blade) or, in all-laser LASIK, a femtosecond laser to create a hinged flap in the surface of the cornea. After gently lifting back the flap to reveal the underlying corneal tissue, he removes microscopic particles of the tissue to re-shape the curvature of the cornea. This corrects the refractive error causing farsightedness, nearsightedness or astigmatism. Once he is satisfied with the newly shaped cornea, he replaces the corneal flap back in its original position, where it heals by itself, without the need for sutures.

Individuals who have undergone LASIK surgery typically notice a dramatic improvement in their vision within 24 to 48 hours after surgery. They are generally happy to find that the procedure is not painful, thanks to topical anesthetic eye drops administered before the procedure begins. In most cases, patients no longer have to depend on prescription glasses or contact lenses to see well; the vast majority of LASIK patients even achieve 20/20 vision following the procedure.

Words cannot describe the miracle that it really is! And I am blessed…… I don’t have any discomfort during the day/evenings. It is absolutely incredibly amazing!!! I started swimming last week again as well. And that is truly life-changing. Dr Chu’s name has gone to almost anyone I know." —Sheryl

"Anybody who wears glasses or contacts can ‘see’ how great it would be not to need vision correction. I was very apprehensive about laser vision correction – until I met Dr. Chu and his staff. I’m still amazed at the improvement in my vision and how confident I was in taking the plunge that got me here. Getting from the grind of needing glasses to the freedom that laser vision correction brings takes a lot of trust. I’m so glad I chose Dr. Chu and his staff to help me on every step of that journey. I felt safe, comfortable and never looked back!" —Kelly Guest, Former Cities 97 Morning Show Host
