Marian Macsai, MD, and Joshua B. Herz, MD, are board-certified ophthalmologists who specialize in laser vision correction. Dr. Macsai served on the FDA Ophthalmic Devices Panel, and she was among the experts who reviewed the first lasers approved for LASIK surgery. Drs. Macsai and Herz perform advanced LASIK surgery at the Eye and Vision Center at Glenbrook hospital, which is ranked among the top 100 hospitals nationwide. The hospital's LASIK suite features state-of-the-art laser technology, which allows the skilled surgeons to deliver the latest, most effective LASIK treatments.
Drs. Macsai and Herz use the sophisticated VISX STAR S4 excimer laser system to perform all LASIK surgeries. They begin each treatment by using the system's advanced WaveScan WaveFront technology to create a 3-D map of the patient's eye detailing irregularities that go undetected in traditional LASIK scans. After creating a flap in the cornea, the surgeons use this map to precisely program the excimer laser, which gently reshapes the tissue beneath the corneal flap so that it can properly refract light rays. To ensure accurate application of the laser treatment, the VISX system incorporates ActiveTrak 3-D Active Eye Tracking technology, which follows the tiny, rapid movements of the patient's eye and automatically repositions the laser accordingly. The VISX system's sophisticated combination of instruments allows Drs. Macsai and Herz to perform very safe, precise treatments that lead to more rewarding vision correction results.

Marian Macsai, MD, is a fellowship-trained ophthalmologist and a nationally recognized expert in the fields of refractive and corneal surgery. She has served as a guest speaker at numerous academic institutions in the United States and abroad. Dr. Macsai currently serves as an examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology board exams. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Eye Bank Association of America, and she sits on the Board of Directors of the Cornea Society (a worldwide organization for cornea specialists). In addition, Dr. Macsai is the Chief of the Division of Ophthalmology at NorthShore University HealthSystem and the Medical Director of Glenbrook Hospital's Eye & Vision Center. She also serves as a Professor and Vice-Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
Joshua B. Herz, MD, received his medical degree from Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine. Dr. Herz served his internship at Ravenswood Hospital, University of Illinois. He completed his ophthalmology residency at Nassau University Medical Center in New York, where he was named Chief Resident of the Department of Ophthalmology. Dr. Herz has also completed fellowship training in refractive surgery, corneal disease and external disease at Louisiana State University. He is a recognized expert in cornea, cataract and refractive surgery, and has lectured extensively throughout the United States. Dr. Herz currently serves as Residency Director for Northwestern University's Ophthalmology Department.
