Sophisticated Technology & Personalized Treatment
Dr. Richard Burns is committed to providing only the best, safest treatments for his LASIK patients. This is why his practice is equipped with leading-edge laser technologies, including the holmium laser. In fact, Dr. Burns was one of the first surgeons in the nation to correct farsightedness with the holmium laser.
In order to achieve outstanding LASIK results, Dr. Burns offers both Wavefront CustomVue and IntraLase technologies for all-laser LASIK. He also uses advanced surgical technologies when performing cataract surgery. At his offices, patients are offered the newest intraocular lens implants (IOLs), such as ReSTOR lenses that provide clear vision at various distances. In addition to helping cataracts patients, ReSTOR IOLs can also be used to improve the vision of individuals suffering from presbyopia a condition that causes blurred near vision in those "over 40."
Dr. Burns believes that optimum LASIK results are achieved through a combination of leading-edge technology, superb surgical skill and a personalized patient-physician relationship. This is why Dr. Burns personally performs all surgical evaluations and monitors the progress of his patients from their first consultation to the last follow-up meeting. CustomVue and All-Laser LASIK
The surgical facilities of Advanced Cataract Surgery & LASIK are equipped with some of the best diagnostic and surgical instruments available. Dr. Burns performs all LASIK procedures with the VISX Star S4 CustomVue excimer laser platform, This leading-edge laser eye surgery system incorporates CustomVue technology, an advanced diagnostic technology, to create a precise map of each eye. This map is similar to a 3D fingerprint impression; Dr. Burns uses it to customize the excimer laser treatment according to the unique vision correction needs of each patient. Dr. Burns' surgical suite also features a special laser (IntraLase) for the creation of the corneal flap. The IntraLase technology allows Dr. Burns to perform completely bladeless LASIK procedures (also known as all-laser LASIK). Patients who are not candidates for all-laser LASIK may be eligible for variations of LASIK, such as LASEK and PRK.

However, during the phakic IOLs procedure Dr. Burns does not remove the patient's natural lenses (which are removed during cataract surgery). Prior to performing any procedure, Dr. Burns thoroughly explains all treatment choices and helps each patient select the procedure that best fits their lifestyle.

Testimonials from Dr. Burns' San Diego LASIK Patients
"My eyesight was 20/400, which is considered legally blind. My glasses were so thick, you could take them outside and start fires! They were so embarrassing, I simply hated wearing them. I wore contacts since I was 13, which was for many, many years. I had considered LASIK for a long time, but I put it off because I was so scared.
After 33 years of wearing contacts, my eyes were becoming more and more vascular, and I knew I had to do something. So I started the legwork shopping around, meeting other doctors. I simply remained TOO SCARED. That is, until I met Dr. Burns. He was the perfect fit for me. What I loved most about Dr. Burns was his true honesty. He told me everything up front. Plus, later when I checked out his credentials on the website, well, wow! I was even more confident I had made the right decision.
The procedure was amazing. Of course, I was very nervous going in, but in less than two minutes per eye, the procedure was complete! It was almost a zen-like experience, because Dr. Burns was so calm. He talked me through the whole procedure, and it was over like "that." I started to see better immediately, even as I was sitting up in the chair. I want to kick myself because I wasted so much time being scared. I don't know what the heck I was afraid of! It was so easy, quick, and painless. K-FROG's Toady Foster, Temecula, California
"I AM SO AMAZED! My vision is 20/15, and it has only been one week since I had IntraLase All-Laser LASIK with CustomVue. The day after my surgery I woke up and immediately saw my little girl for the first time without putting in contacts! She was so happy that her mommy could see, and I just couldn't believe it! I've been telling everyone about it!
After 20 years of contacts I can see! It's just too amazing. I started checking into LASIK about four years ago. Two years ago I went to see Dr. Burns at California Eye Professionals. I wasn't a candidate for LASIK because my cornea was too thin. I was really disappointed, but I just put it out of my mind that I would ever be out of contacts. Then I recently learned that Dr. Burns is doing the latest procedure, IntraLase All-Laser LASIK, which can accommodate thinner corneas. I made an appointment right away to see Dr. Burns again and found out I was a candidate this time.
I was ready to have the surgery immediately, but Dr. Burns found a scratch on my cornea. He suggested that I wait for two months, a recommendation that was in my best interest. On the day of the surgery, he put the numbing drops in himself. He called me personally that night to see how I was doing. I was really, really impressed. As a health care professional, I think about things like that." Dawn Milton, Treatment Coordinator, Dr. Cutts, DDS, Temecula, California
"I wore contacts for years. When I finally decided to get LASIK, I did a lot of research. I had a couple of consultations before I went to see Dr. Burns. As a medical professional, I already knew about his excellent reputation, and I was immediately comfortable with his great bedside manner. He even performed LASIK on his wife, and that said a lot to me.
Dr. Burns took a lot of time to make sure that I was a good candidate, and he told me things about my eyes that I was not told by any of the other doctors. One specific concern was that there was scarring on my eyes FROM MY CONTACTS. He explained that continuing to wear my contacts could lead to more damage in the future. I have been very impressed with how thorough Dr. Burns is. The whole experience was exceptional, and today my vision is phenomenal. I refer all my patients to Dr. Burns." Bridgette Briggs, MD, Temecula, California
"I researched LASIK for four years before I finally found Dr. Burns. Everyone at the office was so incredibly friendly and nice, and Dr. Burns answered all of my questions. It felt good from the minute I walked into his office. I immediately felt calm, and I knew that after all these years, this was right.
Dr. Burns understood my concerns and expectations, and educated me about the whole process. Dr. Burns was so awesome during the procedure, and I never felt any pain or discomfort. He talked about everything, step by step, and I knew what was coming.
My vision has been 20/15 from the first month of my LASIK procedure. It is unbelievable to be able to see after years of contacts. I want everyone to know about Dr. Burns." Robin Facer, Former Mrs. California, Murrieta, California
"Dr. Burns is one of the best physicians I've worked with. He's a professional, and he knows what he is doing. I have worked with him a lot over the years. I refer many of my patients to him, so I had firsthand experience with his professionalism and the way he has always treated my patients.
I wore glasses my whole life, so when I decided to have LASIK, of course I went to Dr. Burns. The new freedom I experienced was so awesome, I took my wife to Dr. Burns too. It was so easy, we both agree we should have done it years ago. We're very grateful to him!" Michael Basch, MD, Talia Medical Group, Temecula, California
"Last year, I scratched my eye and couldn't wear contacts anymore. When I went to Dr. Burns, I didn't know what I needed to do, but I knew I needed to do something. He was so nice and so helpful. He explained that I was a candidate for a new lens, the ReSTOR Multifocal Lens, which would eliminate having two surgeries: one for my vision and one for cataracts. After he presented me with all my options and explained everything very thoroughly, I decided the multifocal lens was the best option.
I'm so glad I did it! I haven't seen so well in many years. I can see now that I wasn't as good of a housekeeper as I formerly thought I was. Dr. Burns helped me make the right decision, and I am so happy with my new vision." Challen Moore, ReSTOR IOLs, Hemet, California
