More About LASIK Vision Correction With Dr. Brown
Dr. Brown uses advanced laser technology to provide patients with customized LASIK/PRK treatments and highly accurate vision correction results. The practice of Dr. Brown offers the VISXS4 laser platform with iris registration and wavefront technology. This allows him to customize each individual's LASIK/PRK treatment to his or her unique vision correction needs.
Before beginning LASIK, Dr. Brown utilizes wavefront technology, which is computer-guided imaging used to map out the front surface of the cornea and design a customized treatment for each patient's eyes. This sophisticated diagnostic technology allows Dr. Brian Brown to identify even the most subtle refractive errors, called "higher-order aberrations." He then uses this pinpointing data to calibrate the excimer laser used to re-contour the cornea during LASIK.
To maximize patient comfort during surgery, Dr. Brown first administers topical anesthetic eye drops and provides the patient with a sedative to relax him or her during their procedure. He begins the LASIK procedure by using a blade to create the flap on the surface of the cornea. He then gently lifts the corneal flap, allowing the excimer laser to reshape the front surface of the cornea, while correcting the refractive error that causes nearsightedness, farsightedness and / or astigmatism. Once Dr. Brown is satisfied with the newly contoured cornea, he repositions the corneal flap back in its original location, where it naturally re-bonds to the eye without a need for stitches.
Dr. Brown's Downey / Los Angeles LASIK patients typically remark that they experienced little to no discomfort during their procedure. Most LASIK patients generally see an improvement in their vision within one to two days after surgery. Often, patients achieve their personal best vision or better shortly following LASIK.
