The Bense iLASIK Centre team

Dr. Bense serves as Medical Director for the Bense Eye Centre in St. John's, Newfoundland. The Bense Eye Centre experience extends far beyond "general" eye care. Dr. Bense and his team work hard to provide total care, giving maximum attention to patient health and well being. Most people are naturally cautious when it comes to their eyes. Dr. Bense works tirelessly with his patients to educate them about the risks and rewards associated with treatment, helping them to feel at ease with their eye care decisions. Having undergone LASIK himself, Dr. Bense is well aware of the life-changing benefits associated with the procedure. As a LASIK patient, he can also relate to his patients' cares and concerns.

"We have successfully treated thousands of very happy clients from around the world. I can personally attest to this wonderful treatment, having had it myself several years ago. Hope to see you soon." — Dr. Bense

More about Vision Correction at Bense Eye Centre

Bense iLASIK Centre's comfortable lounge

Bense Eye Centre is a premier vision correction facility founded by Dr. Michael Bense in 1985. Since its inception, the state-of-the-art centre has been geared towards providing patients with a safe and comfortable setting in which to undergo vision correction. The fully accredited facility exceeds all standards for health and safety and incorporates the latest treatment innovations and technologies to elicit optimal results.

When performing traditional LASIK surgery, Dr. Bense uses the M2 Microkeratome — the finest LASIK keratome in the world — to create the corneal flap. For patients seeking a more advanced approach, he offers the same procedure used by NASA and the USAF for vision correction in their Aviators and Astronauts, the "iLASIK" procedure. The iLASIK procedure is a combination of several lasers that perform Advanced CustomVue Wavefront treatments as well as the Intralase laser that produces a blade free flap. Wavefront-guided Advanced CustomVue LASIK, Epi-LASIK and PRK treatments reduce higher-order aberrations that can affect quality of vision. The Advanced CustomVue iLASIK procedure is the most popular procedure performed at Bense Eye Centre, with 90 percent of patients seeing 20/20 or better after treatment.

Dr. Bense uses the AMO Star S4 Active-Trak Laser with iris registration as well as the Intralase FS60 laser to perform these procedures. This is the only FDA-approved excimer laser to feature three-dimensional eye tracking and variable spot scanning technology for exceptional vision results.
