More About Laser Eye Surgery at Northern California Laser Center
Dr. Ash is a highly experienced surgeon who received his specialty training in refractive surgery at the prestigious Tufts University in Boston. For LASIK surgery, Dr. Ash uses the VISX CustomVue wavefront-guided laser system. This advanced technology laser system provides a highly accurate measurement of the corneal curvature and then creates an individualized laser beam to correct each patient’s vision. To create the corneal flap, Dr. Ash offers the “all-laser LASIK” or “blade-free LASIK” system known as IntraLase. This laser system uses a laser beam instead of a bladed instrument (microkeratome) to create the corneal flap. IntraLase has advanced the safety level of LASIK to an entirely new level. The results of an intense study of LASIK in Top Gun naval pilots clearly show superiority of IntraLase over the traditional microkeratome. At Northern California Laser Center, Dr. Ash offers the CustomVue LASIK with IntraLase just as performed at the naval LASIK surgery centers for the Top Gun pilots.
The IntraLase has greatly enhanced the accuracy of laser vision correction surgery. By creating a consistent flap, surgeons can deliver better surgical outcomes. Additionally, the precise flap edge further enhances surgical results. One of the problems associated with traditional bladed microkeratome is wrinkles in the corneal flap. These wrinkles can reduce the quality of vision after LASIK. The IntraLase creates a smooth 70 degree flap edge that acts much like a man-hole cover. Once the LASIK eye surgery is completed, the flap is placed back into position with a highly accurate fit. Wrinkle and cell growth under the edge of the flap have been virtually eliminated, paving the way for highly rewarding vision correction results.
