Alan Faulkner, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in laser vision correction procedures, including LASIK. He has been performing refractive procedures since radial keratometry (RK) was first practiced in 1991, and founded Aloha Laser Vision in 2001. Dr. Faulkner specializes in custom LASIK, an advanced form of blade-free laser eye surgery. He uses some of the most sophisticated equipment available, including the WaveLight Allegretto Wave Eye-Q laser platform and the IntraLase laser. With its flying spot technology, the WaveLight Allegretto Wave Eye-Q laser is able to customize every treatment based on the patient's individual prescription and shape of the cornea. Dr. Faulkner was an early adopter of the Intralase Method and pioneered the procedure in Hawaii. During the procedure, he first creates a small flap in the surface of the eye using the IntraLase laser, which yields higher levels of precision and safety than bladed instruments. He administers the excimer laser to correct the corneal flaws, and returns the flap to its original position. Once the flap has healed, patients often obtain clearer vision than ever before, with more than 98 percent of patients achieving 20/20 or better vision. Dr. Faulkner provides his patients with multiple refractive surgery options, including wavefront- optimized LASIK, wavefront-guided LASIK, PRK, Visian ICL (phakic intraocular lens implant) and refractive lens exchange.

More About Alan Faulkner, MD
Alan Faulkner, MD, completed an undergraduate degree at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and a medical degree at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honors Society. Dr. Faulkner also completed an internal medicine internship, an ophthalmology residency, and an oculoplastics, ocular oncology and orbital disease fellowship at Tulane University. Following his formal education, Dr. Faulkner served as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and Residency Program Director of Ophthalmology at Tulane University, as well as the Ophthalmology Section Chief at Charity Hospital in New Orleans and a Board Member and Associate Medical Director at Southern Eye Bank. Dr. Faulkner is a member of several medical organizations, including the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the International Society of Refractive Surgeons and the Hawaii Medical Association. He is currently a member of the Alcon Labs Refractive Clinical Advisory Board and lectures frequently at national meetings.
