by the
Santa Barbara Press.

Stuart R. Winthrop, MD, FACS, is a nationally recognized, board-certified ophthalmologist who has been improving the vision of Santa Barbara cataract surgery patients for more than 20 years. A Harvard-trained eye surgeon, Dr. Winthrop served as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the prestigious Jules Stein Eye Institute and is currently on the board of the Santa Barbara Surgery Center. As a testament to his surgical skills and quality, patient-oriented eye care, Dr. Winthrop is consistently named "Best Ophthalmologist" by the Santa Barbara Press and independent reader polls. He regularly participates in medical missions worldwide, providing much-needed eye care to patients in developing countries through Cottage Eye Care and SEE International.

Dr. Winthrop performs the advanced "no-stitch" technique of cataract surgery, a method that promotes higher levels of safety and patient comfort. He begins the procedure by creating a small, self-sealing incision in the eye. Next, he extracts the eye's clouded lens and replaces it with a premium intraocular lens implant (IOL), an artificial replacement that restores clear vision following cataract surgery. Dr. Winthrop offers a wide range of sophisticated IOLs, including astigmatism correcting AcrySof Toric, multifocal ReSTOR and Tecnis lenses and the accommodating Crystalens, which can also be used to correct age-related presbyopia.

In addition to cataract surgery, Dr. Winthrop offers LASIK eye surgery as well as a range of comprehensive eye care services, including routine eye exams, glaucoma treatments and corneal transplant surgery, just to name a few. He specializes in handling difficult anterior segment and corneal problems.
