The talented eye care team of the UC Davis Ophthalmology Eye Center is composed of experienced, board-certified ophthalmologists who specialize in a variety of eye surgeries, including corneal transplantation, laser vision correction and cataract surgery. In addition to performing eye surgery, they serve as instructors, teaching the latest techniques and technologies to ophthalmologists in training and other practitioners. Due to their revolutionary research and advanced techniques, the surgeons have earned a reputation for excellence among patients and fellow ophthalmologists, and they are invited to speak at ophthalmology conferences around the world.
The eye surgeons at UC Davis Ophthalmology Eye Center perform corneal transplant, a sophisticated procedure that replaces damaged corneal tissue with a graft. Corneal transplant is a highly successful procedure that can greatly improve a patient's vision. The UC Davis Eye Center offers some of the latest cornea transplant techniques, including partial transplant surgeries, like DSAEK and DALK. In addition, they offer femtosecond laser-assisted corneal transplantation, which promotes highly accurate and effective corneal transplants with precise laser incisions.
The surgical team of UC Davis Ophthalmology Eye Center specializes in cataract surgery with phacoemulsification. This advanced technique eliminates the need for anesthetic injection in most cases by using numbing eye drops. After numbing the eye, the surgeons use ultrasound technology to break the clouded lens into smaller pieces, which are extracted through a tiny, self-sealing incision. The natural lens is replaced with a permanent artificial intraocular lens implant (IOL). The UC Davis Ophthalmology Eye Center is one of the few centers in California to offer intraocular lens implants that protect against damage caused by blue light, which contributes to the progression of macular degeneration and harms retina cells. They also offer premium intraocular lenses that can correct for astigmatism, as well as reduce the need for reading glasses after cataract surgery.
