Stuart Sondheimer, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in custom cataract surgery with premium intraocular lens implants. Boasting more than 10,000 successful eye surgeries, Dr. Sondheimer has earned a reputation for surgical excellence. As one of the first ophthalmologists to surgically correct myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism, Dr. Sondheimer is considered a leader in the field of refractive surgery. He continues to hone his surgical skills by attending continuing education courses focusing on the latest ophthalmologic technologies and techniques.
Dr. Sondheimer performs advanced "no-needle, no-stitch, no-patch" custom cataract surgery with phacoemulsification and premium intraocular lens implants. A leading cataract surgeon, Dr. Sondheimer boasts a remarkable surgical record. He creates an individualized treatment plan for each patient that addresses his or her unique needs in order to deliver the best possible results. Dr. Sondheimer begins the procedure by numbing the eyes with anesthetic eye drops. Next, he creates a small, self-sealing incision in the eye. Dr. Sondheimer then uses sophisticated ultrasound technology to break apart the clouded lens and vacuum the pieces through the incision. Last, he replaces the clouded lens with a premium intraocular lens implant (IOL). For astigmatic cataracts patients, Dr. Sondheimer may perform refractive LASIK surgery following cataract surgery. This combination of procedures offers patients remarkable vision correction results and often eliminates their dependence on glasses.
During the consultation, he carefully evaluates each patient's vision needs.
Unlike traditional cataract surgery that replaces clouded lenses with monofocal implants, Dr. Sondheimer offers custom cataract surgery with premium IOLs. During the consultation, he carefully evaluates a patient's vision needs in order to determine the best type of IOLs for him or her. For certain patients, he recommends the accommodating Crystalens, one of the most sophisticated IOLs available. Crystalens gently moves with the eye's muscles, improving patients' abilities to change focus from near to distant objects. Crystalens is also used to treat presbyopia, allowing patients of all ages achieve clearer vision than ever before.
Dr. Sondheimer's patients receive the best personalized vision care.
In addition to implanting Crystalens IOLs, Dr. Sondheimer may treat cataracts patients with the sophisticated multifocal AcrySof ReSTOR IOLs, which correct for both nearsightedness and farsightedness. As a result, patients no longer need to rely on bifocals or contact lenses to be able to view objects at different distances. This newly achieved visual freedom often greatly improves the overall quality of patients' lives.
While the primary focus of Dr. Sondheimer's practice is refractive surgery,
he has also restored the vision of several thousand cataract patients.
In addition to cataract surgery, Dr. Sondheimer offers LASIK surgery, PRK, glaucoma and macular degeneration treatment. He also treats nearsightedness by placing Visian implantable collamer lenses (ICLs) in front of the eyes' natural lenses.
