Kerry Solomon, MD, is a fellowship-trained, board-certified ophthalmologist who has gained a reputation as one of the world's top LASIK and cataract eye surgeons. Dr. Solomon has a deep passion for his work and is proud to provide his patients with comprehensive, quality eye care.
As a testament to his standing in the field of ophthalmology, Dr. Solomon was asked to serve as Chairman of the FDA liaison committee for the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He has also been featured in a variety of media outlets, including The Today Show, The New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Money magazine, Redbook magazine, Readers Digest and PBS' "Healthy Body, Healthy Mind," which aired in more than 140 countries. He was named one of the "Top 50 Opinion Leaders in the Fields of Cataract and Refractive Surgery" by Cataract & Refractive Surgery Today.
Dr. Solomon remains committed to providing his patients with the best available technology, including the latest generation of premium replacement lenses. He continues to be on the forefront of ophthalmological advances as Director of Carolina Eyecare Research Institute, where he and his team research new medical devices, surgical techniques and treatments for a variety of eye conditions.
Dr. Solomon uses the "no-needle, no-stitch, no-patch" technique when performing cataract eye surgery. Before the procedure, he administers anesthetic eye drops to numb the area and to alleviate any discomfort the patient may feel during surgery. Then, he creates a small, self-sealing incision around the cornea through which he breaks apart and removes the clouded lens and replaces it with an intraocular lens (IOL). Patients with nearsightedness and presbyopia (age-related farsightedness) can choose from a variety of standard or premium IOLs provided by Dr. Solomon, including the accommodating Crystalens IOL, which moves with the muscles in the eye to change focus between objects at different distances; and the multifocal ReSTOR IOLs, which corrects nearsightedness and presbyopia using a different method. The procedure is completed in a matter of minutes and many patients report improved vision within 24 hours.

In addition to cataract surgery, Dr. Solomon provides bladeless iLASIK, a procedure which uses the precision of two computer-guided lasers to give patients optimum vision correction results. The first, known as Intralase, is used to create the corneal flap. The second "excimer" laser alters the shape of the underlying corneal tissue; this laser delivers micron-level accuracy more than 100 times greater than can be achieved using a blade. The entire procedure generally takes less than 20 minutes.
For those who are not good candidates for laser eye surgery, Dr. Solomon offers implantable contact lenses (ICLs), such as Visian or Verisyse.
Dr. Solomon provides a full range of eye care services and advanced surgical
vision restoration procedures at his state-of-the-art surgical suite in South Carolina.
